Starting Salary Range: $63,629 to $97,670 + 10 additional days a year (195 days per year), salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $4,018 is granted to eligible faculty.

About the College: Cabrillo College is highly regarded for its success of transfer and career education, and currently serves over 11,400 students each semester. Cabrillo transfers many of its students to three nearby universities – the University of California at Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and California State University at Monterey Bay. ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY: This full-time, tenure track, academic specialist will enjoy a 195-Day work schedule. The position begins on Monday, August 22, 2022 pending Governing Board ratification. Classes may be in a traditional "in class" setting, online, or hybrid format scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and at various campus locations including days, evenings, and/or weekends.

The Computer Technology Center (CTC) Faculty position is essential to campus-wide student technology instructional support and student success. The CTC’s mission is technological instructional support for all students, including support for online platforms, software, hardware, Canvas, and assisting students with their own technology. The CTC provides support for over 130 types of software, including everything from specialty art printing, to construction, music, video, business, engineering, and accounting software. Students learning to use technology, and who cannot afford access to the latest technology and software, find access and support at the CTC. CTC faculties are key players within Guided Pathways. The center’s faculties’ leadership, direction, and initiative, keep campus tech up-to-date and supported for all students. The CTC Faculty works to:

Provide all students technology access, support, and drop-in tutors

Provide support during afternoon, evening, and some weekend hours

Maintain computers and software to be responsive to student needs

Provide workshops and training for students on systems and tools needed for coursework

Maintain a Teaching and Office Assistant program, and a walk-in Help Desk for students, staff, and the campus community, and increase internship opportunities

Maintain and provide support to MakerSpace in coordination with faculty

About the Department:

The Computer Technology Center (CTC) is a large computer lab and student lounge for registered Cabrillo students who are achieving their student goals. The CTC is open 6 days a week, including evening hours, during the fall/spring semesters, and is open six weeks in summer. The CTC has Peer Tech Coaches (Teaching Assistants) at all times to help with labs, homework, and tech support.

Examples of Duties

• Manage an open computer lab and student lounge afternoons, evenings, and weekend hours
• Hire, train, and manage a team of office and teaching assistants who staff the computer lab
• Develop and teach technology workshops in a lab setting such as Canvas training
• Provide technology and service support for students in-person in the computer lab, via video conference, and via telephone
• Provide and manage outreach to students to create awareness of the computer lab services and workshops
• Create announcements and updates for the college
• Maintain a book and equipment library for student use in the computer lab
• Maintain the Computer Technology Center webpages
• Generate reports and data visualization using PowerBi or similar tool
• Attend training workshops and courses to stay-up-to date technology trends
• Maintain student external resources like LinkedIn Learning, Azure Dev Tools for teaching, VMWare Academy, Cisco Academy, and others
• Teach assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments
• Participate in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
• Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
• Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours
• Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
• Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications in one of the following disciplines:

CABT/Office Technologies -- Computer Information Systems

• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff AND
• Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two (2) years of professional experience OR
• Any associate degree AND six (6) years of professional experience OR
• Possess a lifetime California Community College Instructor credential in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or Office Technologies
• The *equivalent

OR

Computer Science

• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff AND
• Bachelor’s in mathematics AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or
• business administration OR
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND
• A master’s degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems OR
• The equivalent*
