Job Summary Job ID: 237636Position: 20009128 The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University invites applications for an Assistant Research Scientist position. The position may cover any area in cellular or systems neuroscience. Applicants with expertise in neurodegenerative disease, cellular electrophysiology, and in vivo circuit studies are particularly encouraged to apply. Additional areas of interest include epigenetics and human iPSC-based neurological disease models. Department faculty have access to excellent core facilities for multiphoton/confocal and electron microscopy, small animal behavior and imaging, genomics and proteomics, flow cytometry and bioinformatics. This position will work independently under the direction of Dr. Qin Wang and will be expected to conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of brain aging, stem cells, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, including engaging in collaborative projects. Will train and provide supervision to the postdocs, students and technical staff and will Carry out research projects independently; design and execute research experiments, perform data analysis, write manuscripts and publish results. Other duties will include oversight of progress reports and assist in managing the protocols of the use of animals, chemicals and biohazardous agents. This position will be expected to develop new methods and technology and should have expertise in animal behavior, genomic analysis and transgenic mouse models as it relates to the main research focus on neurodegeneration and depression.Department Marketing Statement The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is charged with conducting high-impact original biomedical research and translating the findings to clinical applications, and in educating future physicians and researchers. Our research addresses fundamental questions in cell and developmental biology, endocrinology, neuroscience, regenerative medicine, and cancer biology. Collaborations have been established with clinical departments for studies that investigate various diseases including neurological diseases (stroke, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, and Guillain-Barre syndrome); psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and autism); degenerative diseases (osteoporosis); cancer; and endocrinological disorders. Our department is also the home to the new Transgenic and Genome Editing Core. MCG is a state-supported academic medical center located in a historic city with outstanding recreational and lifestyle opportunities. Required Qualifications Candidates must hold an MD, PhD, or both, and are expected to have or establish a cutting edge extramurally funded research program, and may participate in teaching medical and graduate students.
