Overview
The LGBT Program Coordinator in the Gender + Sexuality Resource Center https://odi.princeton.edu/cgs creates and maintains large-scale programming that centers the experiences of LGBTQIA+ students and communities; schedules events for student groups; maintains funding stream for student groups; oversees student support groups; schedules and maintains events; outreaches to speakers and workshop presenters; works with campus partners to cosponsor events; maintains a calendar of events and scheduling; advertises and promotes events; supervises student interns; be available for one-on-one and group support for students and; assists the Assistant Director with facilitation and training initiatives. A successful candidate for this role will have experience planning, executing, and assessing large-scale programs. Along with Gender + Sexuality Resource Center staff, the Program Coordinator serves as a resource for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and ally+ members of the University community and works collaboratively with colleagues to support the mission and function of the GSRC. The program coordinator plans and executives large-scale programming; engages in extensive outreach to collaborate with campus and community partners; assists students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members who access the space and services of the Center; advises student organizations; supervises student employees and volunteers; assists with administration of the GSRC; makes referrals and helps maintain the office's physical space.
Responsibilities
Programming
- Responsible for all aspects of the GSRC's comprehensive programming from inception through delivery and assessment afterwards, with an emphasis on large-scale and campus-wide programs
Event logistics, including, but is not limited to room reservations, contacting presenters, ordering food, setting up and cleaning up after events, etc.
Negotiate with vendors/agents regarding contracts and payments, etc.
Develop publicity and program materials, evaluation of programs, assist the director in conducting programmatic need assessments and strategic planning
Work collaboratively with the director to develop the programming for the year, colleagues across campus, and community partners on joint programmatic initiatives
Create a printed and online calendar each semester
Be a liaison to non-LGBTQIA+ student groups and other University offices who seek to collaborate with the Center on programs
- Advise GSRC interns, GSRC-affiliated groups, and LGBTQIA+ affiliated groups on campus
Co-lead mentorship programs, including Q'nnections, the Color Q'llective, and the advent of a women/femme mentorship program
Supervise GSRC interns, training them on office policies and procedures, building their work schedules and ensuring they have project assignments and are meeting deadlines
Meet regularly with facilitators of the support and discussion groups organized by the GSRC, as well as provides advising to LGBTQIA student organizations
Participate in opportunities to co-facilitate certain support and discussion groups
Supervise the GSRC student workers, and responsible for hiring, training, building work schedules, and ensuring that students have project assignments and are meeting deadline
Provides one-on-one advising to students, and connect students with appropriate resources on and off campus
Manage outreach efforts to underrepresented students, faculty and academic departments, residential colleges, and other campus entities as guided by the GSRC's Strategic Plan
- Possess a working knowledge of current holdings in the Center as well as newly released publications and media of relevance to the LGBTQIA+ community
Maintain the lounge and library space, and assist with the budget
Shares responsibility for overseeing all marketing, branding, and communications materials, including print, newsletter, web materials and outreach to students via social media and the GSRC website
Assists with resource development for programs, training, and general use and production of office publications
Help maintain an archive of LGBTQIA+ programs, communications, and photos; and will administer the GSRC's collection of books and resource materials
Responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere for those who come to the Center, advising people on resources, assisting those using the library and Center programs
Responsible for answering phones, checking office voicemail and email, and maintaining office social media and online accounts
Stay current with Treasurer's Office policies and work with the Assistant Director to manage financial transactions: pays bills, reconciles chart strings on a monthly basis, prepares monthly credit card logs, travel vouchers, manage all student travel arrangements, etc.
Additional administrative duties as assigned
- Assist with the Princeton LGBTQIA+ Oral History Project and the Dialogue and Difference in Action (DDA) orientation program
Most other special projects will be programmatic in nature, such events for special occasions, alumni functions, and commemorations
Possible training development
Special projects will be assigned based on needs of the GSRC and the larger University community
Essential Qualifications
- Knowledge of sexual orientation and gender identity and issues of concern related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual+ and the intersection of other identities
Significant knowledge and experience serving and supporting LGBTQIA+ students of color
Experience with creative educational program development, including program planning, implementation, and assessment
Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a social justice-oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles
Skill to pay close attention to detail and prioritize work load with frequent interruptions
Ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously, with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects
Excellent communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
Strong group facilitation skills
Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations
Ability to take initiative, problem solve and work independently with good judgment about when to seek direction
- Master's degree at the time of appointment with 1-3 years of related professional experience (including experience as a graduate assistant in higher education)
Professional experience working in social justice education, including experience in the areas of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, sexuality, and gender
Educational background in college student personnel, higher education administration, social work, counseling, sexuality and gender studies, or other related fields
Experience working with college students in a university setting
