This role will serve as a member of the Pottruck Center for Student-Athlete Success, and embrace the mission and vision of CSAS in supporting the holistic development of varsity student-athletes. Participate in the development and implementation of programming, academic support, civic engagement opportunities and other responsibilities in support of the Center for Student-Athlete Success. This position will be responsible for the management of the academic, mental and social well-being of the Penn football program (servings 130+ student-athletes) along with other assigned sports (serving 30-50 student-athletes). Responsible for programming that will impact the futures of 1000+ student-athletes annually, as well as a highly successful mentoring program that touches hundreds of Penn Athletics alumni. Must ensure that APR, GSR and other academic metrics maintain high levels of excellence. Direct oversight of NCAA, Ivy League and Penn eligibility requirements for all student-athletes on selected teams. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Success.Job Description
Academic Services – Serve as primary point of contact for select sports (football); Responsible for APR and GSR staying consistently at the highest levels to ensure that we continue to receive the $250,000 in annual NCAA funding for academic performance; Monitor student-athlete mental health, disability/physical concerns and central academic services, and coordinate proper support for all at-risk student-athletes.
Quaker Qualified – Plan, manage and run DRIA’s Quaker Qualified program for all sports and 1,000 student-athletes. Coordinate efforts between CSAS, Sports Performance, PAWLA, Weingarten Center, and other various campus partners to provide a first-class educational program Responsible for tracking, implementation, and growth of related programming for student-athletes; Develop and execute a plan for Name, Image and Likeness educational resources as required by PA state law and NCAA rules.
Mentor Program – Implementation and execution of Umentor program with all participating teams; Partner with Penn Champion’s Club; Manage relationship with alumni mentors and student-athletes; Install new software system and manage CSAS budget allocated to mentoring program (~$25k/year)
Athletic Eligibility – Monitor and report on NCAA, Ivy League and Penn eligibility requirements for all student-athletes in football and other assigned sports. Responsible for education of campus academic advisors and eligibility officers on specific eligibility requirements.
Budget Management – Responsible for monitoring and requesting budget proposals for the $850,000 Pottruck naming gift to support the Pottruck Center for Student-Athlete Success programmatic efforts.
Perform additional duties as assigned
BA/BS Degree required. Masters Degree preferred. Prior experience in student development, academic advising, academic services, community service or other related areas. Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented mindset and exceptional ability to build relationships. Prior experience as a student-athlete a plus. Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required.
