The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) is committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and diverse intellectual and cultural campus experience at North Carolina State University (NC State). The OIED facilitates and supports efforts to ensure equity and equal opportunity, offers diversity education and training, and promotes inclusive excellence among students, faculty, and staff. There are four OIED units: Campus Community Centers; Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Practice; Equal Opportunity and Equity; and Bias Impact Response. These units collaborate to ensure accountability to compliance, policy, and community care standards. They also monitor and respond to campus climate needs, facilitate equity and inclusion assessment, education, and training, and support underrepresented and marginalized identity groups within the NC State community. Essential Job Duties:
The Campus Community Centers are a unit within the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. The Campus Community Centers are comprised of the African American Cultural Center, GLBT Center, Multicultural Student Affairs, and the Women’s Center. Our community efforts play a role in increasing the participation, retention, and success of students, faculty, and staff from historically underrepresented groups. They ensure that NC State is an equitable and inclusive environment, one that is free from prohibited discrimination and harassment. Together, creating a community that provides a unified, campus-wide approach ensures that students, faculty, and staff learn and work within a campus defined by the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion.
GLBT Center The GLBT Center’s mission is to engage, develop, and empower members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community and their allies. The Center’s vision is of a campus where students, staff, faculty, and alumni feel empowered and proud of all the identities that they hold and share responsibility to increase diversity & inclusion. In order to fulfill that mission, the Center helps students connect to support networks, offers identity-based and health-related information & resources. Programmatically the center provides professional and leadership development opportunities and hosts educational events and programs. Additionally, center staff support students individually and collectively on issues related to personal identity, academic success, and refer students to resources on campus and in the local community. The GLBT Center strives to increase the NC State campus community’s understanding of diversity by working collaboratively to raise awareness, promote respect, and create a culture of equity, inclusion and social justice.
The GLBT Center Director reports to the Senior Director of the Campus Community Centers, who reports to the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity and Chief Diversity Officer, a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.
The Director will provide overall administrative, operational, programming and fiscal direction for the GLBT Center. This position spearheads strategic planning, budget management, fund development and assessment for all center programs and services; supervises, develops and evaluates all center staff; identifies and addresses barriers to student success; serves on various university and community committees; and works with staff from all Centers to foster a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for all students, with a particular focus on students from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities. The director will have a demonstrated passion for and mastery of outreach, education, student development, collaboration and advocacy. The director will serve as a dynamic liaison between OIED, the University community, and local GLBT community partners.

Position Description/General Scope of Duties
- Provide leadership to the GLBT Center and ensure the delivery of programming, resources, and services that are responsive to the changing needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, queer, transgender, genderqueer, gender fluid, gender non-conforming, non-binary, agender, intersex and questioning students and their allies.
- Providing strategic direction and administrative (fiscal, operational and programmatic) oversight for all aspects of the GLBT Center.
- Lead the hiring, training, supervision, evaluation and development of a talented and diverse professional, support and student staff
Advocacy, Outreach, Programming and Training
Assessment and Administrative
- Position the Center as a relevant cultural asset for the campus community by providing resources and consultation related to sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. This Includes collaborating with campus and community partners to implement and coordinate initiatives that meet the needs of the students, faculty and staff served by the Center.
- Provide one-on-one support and resources for students struggling with academic demands, transitional issues, identity development or coming out, lack of family or financial support, climate concerns or institutional barriers.
- Provide institutional leadership in advocating for practice, policy review, and procedural changes regarding GLBT issues for the broader campus community
- Responsible for designing and implementing co-curricular education and learning opportunities related to sexual orientation and gender identity/expression, for students, faculty, and staff.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with faculty, alumni and other campus and community partners
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Ensure the successful design, implementation and assessment of all programs, educational initiatives and support services developed by the GLBT Center
- Establish assessment protocols for GLBT Center programs and initiatives in alignment with Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Practice (IESP), OIED, and the university strategic priorities. Identify procedures for collecting and producing data that measures success (both programmatic and student).
- Provide regular reports on progress toward GLBT Center goals including annual reports and other reports as needed.
- Leading short-term operational and long-term strategic planning and implementation processes for the Center, including routine assessment of programs, operations, communications, activities and partnerships;
- Developing, maintaining, and maximizing the Center’s fiscal resources and operating within assigned budgets and University fiscal policies.
- Work in partnership with OIED leadership and University Advancement to steward fund development including endowment development and annual planned giving activities.
- Represent GLBT Center and OIED on key divisional and University committees, as needed.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counselor Education, Public Administration, or a related area of study;
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in higher education or related fields such as but not limited to non-profits or k-12 education.
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing professional staff.
- Application of relevant programing which center QTPOC and international literature, culture, history, and futurity in program planning, implementation and leadership
- Management experience of professional staff;
- Demonstrated work history of commitment to student development and knowledge of best practices for advising student leaders and student organizations;
- Demonstrated success in program development, delivery, and assessment, preferably in higher education settings;
- Experience with strategic program planning and budget management;
- Experience with research and curriculum development;
- Demonstrated successful experience in individually and collaboratively developing; facilitating, and assessing/evaluating training, workshops, and presentations.
Required License(s) or Certification(s):
- An advanced application of intersectional and critical social justice frameworks; feminist, womanist, queer theories and concepts; and multicultural perspectives in student-centered program planning and implementation;
- Awareness of how a broad range of issues impact individuals within systems of oppression based on multiple identities and positionalities, including gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, disability, worldview, and other significant aspects of identity.
- Content area knowledge and extensive understanding of intersectionality within and across systematically non-dominant communities situated within historically and predominately white institutions: including social justice scholarship and best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
