The Department of History is an academic unit in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences and is home to over twenty full-time professors whose strengths include United States, European, Public, Military, Atlantic World, and Maritime History. The Department offers courses in the full range of international areas. At the undergraduate level the Department offers a BA in History and Minors in History and Public History. At the graduate level the Department offers MA degrees in History (concentrations in American, European, Military, Atlantic World, and Public History), and an MA in Maritime Studies. The Program in Maritime Studies is one of the world’s leading academic underwater archaeology programs. It is characterized by hands-on underwater training, primary document historical research, and other practical skills such as remote sensing and grant writing.Job Duties :

The Department of History invites applications for a nine-month appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor in History. This non-tenure track faculty position will begin August 16, 2022. The faculty member will teach a 4-4 load. Area of specialization is within Naval and/or Military History. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. Minimum Education/Experience :
The Naval/Military Historian will be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, resource allocations, promotion, research, engagement, and teaching. For an appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor or a Teaching Associate Professor, PhD in the teaching area or closely related field is required. Qualifying degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
