Description of Position

The Associate Professor of Graphic Design and New Media is for a full-time position, teaching college level Visual Art courses to a diverse student population and supervising the Graphic Design Program and New Media within the Visual Arts Art Department.
Reporting to the Division Dean, the incumbent will teach discipline specific courses as needed using a variety of methodologies. Responsibilities will include course preparation and instruction; program and class recruitment; curriculum development; participation in the on campus college community and continued professional growth activities; and creative program building based on needs assessment and in collaboration with other faculty. May be asked to teach other courses in disciplines in which she/he is able to be credentialed.

The successful faculty member recognizes that service to our students is our highest priority, and embraces their role in student success, recruitment, and retention. This includes being open to a variety of delivery methods and course design with the possibility of interactive, online, day, evening, weekend classes and/or teaching at various College locations and/or in the high school/college dual enrollment programs. In addition, faculty should be open to both traditional (16 week) and compressed course design (i.e., 8 week classes). Faculty can expect to participate in innovative forms of assessment and should be willing to utilize OER when possible.

The general expectation is that full-time faculty serve as provisional faculty for a period of three years prior to being reviewed for continuing status. The determination of faculty status is, however, ultimately at the discretion of the Yavapai College District Governing Board and the College President, as the Board's designee.

The key duties of this position are:
a. Plan both asynchronous and synchronous instructional offerings for the Graphic Design program and certificate.
b. Maintain curriculum and participate in course level and program level academic assessment; develop and refine syllabi; participate in all areas of divisional and departmental responsibilities; select textbooks and other instructional materials in compliance with developed college policies.
c. Lead and support adjunct teaching team with courses, syllabi, Canvas, Quality Matters, and new adjunct hires.
d. First point of contact for the program and lobbying for program needs.
e. Oversee New Media courses including Digital Illustration, Photoshop, Video editing, Web Design and Photography.
f. Be the face of the Graphic Design program to the college community and the business community
g. Coordinate Graphic Design Advisory Board team and meetings
h. Participate in Job Fairs and Workforce development as outlined in YC Strategic Initiatives.
i. Integrate technology into course design and use multiple instructional techniques in the teaching of visual art courses.
j. Participate in all regularly scheduled meetings of the department/division and professional staff.
k. Prepare preliminary budget materials for submission to the appropriate dean.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

1. Master's degree in Fine Art in Visual Art; OR2. Master's degree or higher in another discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in Visual Art.3. Applicants may also be considered who can provide evidence of ten years of professional experience in the media or discipline to be taught. This experience consists of but is not limited to exhibition records, documentation of grant awards and professional use of the appropriate skills in the art. Potential instructors must provide evidence of a wide critical and public recognition and a record of teaching.
Preferred Skills & Abilities

- Community college teaching experience
- Experience with multi-media technology to enhance student learning
- Experience with online and/or blended/hybrid instruction
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations
- Ability to teach other courses as needed
- Be knowledgeable in all phases of the instructional area of immediate concern, including print and electronic media; this includes but not limited to a strong design background; an ability to develop and revise curriculum for credit programs; an ability to develop and maintain strong links with 4-year colleges/art schools for student transfer; a strong understanding of traditional studio art theory ad practices, history of art, current trends in the Design and Fine Art marketplace
- Proficiency in both Adobe software and image making techniques
- Professional practices as it relates to digital and traditional Fie Art techniques
- Possess ability to function effectively as a member of the faculty team
- Knowledge of Canvas or other Learning Management Systems
