We are currently seeking a Full-Time Employer Relations Specialist who will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement, and who will foster relationship connections for the college and support for the Office of Career and Employment Services. GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor Degree in Counseling, Human Resource Management, Communications, Student Personnel Administration, Business or other related field.(In lieu of Bachelor's Degree- Four (4) years directly related experience)

Preferred: Master's Degree in Counseling, Human Resource Management, Communications, Student Personnel Administration, Business or other related field.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Required:

  • Two (2) years of experience in a business and/or college related setting.
  • Two (2) years of experience in sales or recruiting related setting.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in communication with students, employers and coworkers.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in public relations, public speaking, program planning, and communicating with company stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Experience in working with a college student population.
  • Experience in career coaching.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Collaboration Skills: ability to work well with a team or independently in a professional manner.
  • Ability to handle stress and remain calm.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Required to interact with all levels of Amarillo College personnel, community, and management.
  • Must maintain a commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive information.
  • Collaborate with project staff, AC faculty/staff, and area industry partners to develop and pilot the new work-based learning system including infusion of work-based learning in credit-bearing courses.
  • Develop and engage industry partners through outreach.
  • Build relationships and engage with industry partners, government agencies, community organizations and other potential partners.
  • Serve as lead liaison between AC and area industry partners in establishing community partnerships to result in higher job fair attendance, connecting AC students to employers, and gaining work-based learning opportunities.
  • Gather feedback from industry partners regarding industry-standard skills for career readiness capabilities.
  • Establish and implement strategies for outreach and information sharing across all partners.
  • Facilitate collaboration among area employers and AC faculty/staff to strengthen target programs and services.
  • Work with local, state and national employers to secure employment opportunities for AC students and graduates of all programs.
  • Coach students and alumni during all stages of career exploration and decision making.
  • Develop and conduct workshops and seminars to prepare students for the job search process.
  • Comply with all college, state and local policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Develop and implement marketing plans for services.
  • Secure and safeguard all property, equipment, and training material including credit cards (if applicable) issued by Amarillo College.
  • Adhere to the Amarillo College Travel Policy guidelines as written.
  • Participate in professional learning and development as required under state or local contractual agreements and/or Amarillo College.
  • Complete all work-related tasks in a neat, orderly and timely manner.
  • Conduct self with professionalism and respect toward others.
  • Exhibit professional behavior while assisting with the needs of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (nights, evenings, weekends and possibly holidays as scheduled or needed.)

Work Environment: This position works in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines and filing cabinets.

Travel Expectations: Some travel may be required for this position. Adhere to the Amarillo College Travel Policy as written.

Salary: Grade 7 Hourly minimum $14.09 - $16.76 salary to commensurate with experience.

Established in 1929, with 86 students answering the inaugural roll call, Amarillo College today is a vibrant, multi-faceted community college that typically enrolls about 10,000 students in academic classes at six campuses and an outreach center.

In 2018, Amarillo College was named a “Great College to Work For” in The Chronicle of Higher Education’s eleventh annual survey on the academic workplace.

With a proven blend of quality and affordability that makes Texas community colleges so appealing – approximately half of the students enrolled in higher education in Texas attend a community college – Amarillo College provides students with a solid academic foundation, whether they are looking to immediately enter the workforce or proceed to a university.

The College’s game-changing initiatives led national community college reform leader Achieving the Dream (ATD) to name Amarillo College a co-recipient of its 2019 Leah Meyer Austin Award, a significant national accolade contingent upon measurable improvements in student outcomes.

Over the past six years, Amarillo College opened a counseling center, a legal aid clinic, a career and employment center, and a childcare center. AC also launched an Advocacy and Resource Center, which houses a food pantry and connects students with social services provided by more than 60 local nonprofits.

Since their inception, AC’s initiatives have led to steady gains in A-to-C pass rates, fall-to-fall retention, and three-year graduation/transfer rates, which among first generation students have increased from 12 percent to 21 percent.

Additionally, the percentage of students who attend AC on a full-time basis continues to climb – 75 percent of AC students attended the College part time in 2015, while only 57 percent were part-time students in 2018.

The College enjoyed its largest graduating class ever in May of 2019, when more than 1,000 students were awarded credentials of completion.

ABOUT OUR REGION

Amarillo is the largest city in the 26-county Texas Panhandle.
