CMC is a comprehensive, public, open-access dual-mission institution offering 136 academic programs ranging from specialized certificates to associate and bachelor’s degrees, a wide range of online, non-credit and lifelong learning courses, as well as extensive concurrent enrollment opportunities in close partnership with neighboring school districts.
Over 15,000 students attend CMC annually, and 40% of degree-seeking students earn a certificate or degree every year. The college’s Latinx enrollment has doubled in six years to 28%, making CMC a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). CMC courses are highly personal and many are highly experiential by design, each with a maximum registration of 25 students.
Colorado Mountain College campuses are located in Aspen, Carbondale, Breckenridge, Dillon, Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs, Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley, Leadville, Rifle, the Vail Valley, and Salida. Of these locations, three are residential—Spring Valley, Leadville, and Steamboat Springs — and students in Breckenridge have access to college-owned off-campus housing. CMC campuses are close-knit communities, on average serving between 1,000 – 2,000 students.
The majority of the college’s financial support comes from local property taxes, not tuition or state revenues. Consequently, CMC is uniquely positioned to be entrepreneurial, nimble, mission-focused, and responsive to community and workforce needs. The college’s Central Services administrative office, which provides administrative support to all campus locations, is located in historic downtown Glenwood Springs, the town from which CMC originally launched in 1965.

Full time faculty positions begin in August 2022 with a 30 credit hour (170 day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses in CMC’s Teacher Education program. Teaching responsibilities will include courses such as Primary and Intermediate Literacy Instruction, Language Acquisition and Literacy for Diverse Learners, Research Based Practice in Instruction and Assessment, How People Learn: Human Brain and Human Learning, and Creating a Positive and Focused Learning Environment. Teaching responsibilities may include 100-level to 400-level classes for associate degree programs or bachelor’s degree programs as well as alternative certification courses.
Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include teaching course load as assigned, evaluate courses and assess student learning, meet established course, program and learning outcomes, comply with guidelines and policies, maintain office hours per established standards, develop rapport with students, assist with and participate in advising, orientation and registration activities. Travel is expected to face to face discipline and college meetings as well as to partnering K12 school districts for meetings and field observations.
Additionally, faculty provide service to the students, discipline and college for 20% of contractual work each year. Service includes but is not limited to: cultivating school-based partnerships with clinical faculty; supervising clinical experiences and internships in partner schools; advising students; participating in program and course assessment and continuous improvement processes; participating in orientation and registration events, program promotion, and recruiting activities; Program Advisory Committee and department meetings; campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, mentor peers, participate in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention representing the program at job fairs, recruiting events and high school events; with other duties as assigned.
Salary range: $67,656.77 - $82,405.89 depending upon education and experience. Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include:
A minimum of a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credits in Curriculum & Instruction, Linguistically Diverse Education, Language & Literacy, Bilingual Education, STEM Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, or a related discipline. Speech Pathology & Audiology may also be considered with school-based experience. Minimum of one-year, full-time teaching experience or the equivalent (30 credit hours) as an adjunct faculty member. Higher education teaching experience and/or a professional teaching license issued from a U.S. state department of education preferred.
PhD or EdD preferred.
Multilingual (e.g. English, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, etc.) or conversational language abilities in more than one language preferred.
