Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE

Responsible for envisioning and implementing a full departmental student affairs program to build and maintain student satisfaction and retention. Develop productive ties with the Case School of Engineering Student Programs Office as well as with Undergraduate Student Affairs and Graduate Studies. Facilitate the students’ interactions with and progress through the department from initial inquiry through graduation and beyond. Oversee student life, academic and social programming for Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering and Computer and Data Sciences. Envision and assist with the implementation of strategic retention strategies to increase student retention for the departments and school. Work closely with other CSE Student Affairs department liaisons in the school to develop and implement a cohesive, strong, and deliberate retention effort. Enhance student life and supplement the advising activities already taking place between the students and faculty advisors through assisting with questions related to general course curriculum and related topics. Work closely with the division of engineering leadership and professional practice and the executive director for professional graduate programs to provide support for the development and growth of the professional master’s program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Develop new strategies and opportunities for recruiting, assisting with career planning and engagement with industry and enhancing student engagement and life specifically for the Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering and Computer and Data Sciences Departments and for the Case School of Engineering. (15%)Oversee and develop a comprehensive strategy for recruitment, retention and student affairs that produces innovative, student centered processes and results in increased student and faculty satisfaction. (10%)Develop the highest quality educational experience for graduate and undergraduates in our all programs in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and campus departments. Responsible for a wide range of student service duties that include general student advising, interpreting and applying campus policies as they relate to academic programs, cultivating relationships with faculty in support of their involvement with programs and with students and providing oversight of Student Affairs Coordinator who supports day-to-day tasks of the programs. (10%)Develop, execute and assess recruiting strategies for the purpose of attracting higher caliber undergraduate and graduate students to the Case School of Engineering. Communicate and update this plan regularly to the Chair and faculty for input and feedback. Drive the design and development of publications and materials needed for effective recruiting and increased outreach (15%)Implement plans for stronger retention of current students and the development of internal outreach strategies for advising present students. (10%)Cultivate all prospects through the inquiry and applicant cycle with close attention to creative communication plans which engage students in the benefits of ECSE and CDS and affiliation with Case. Represent assigned departments and the CSE at national recruiting events and graduate fairs. Also engage and coordinate the participation of current students and faculty in the recruiting process. Evaluate effectiveness, produce relevant recruiting statistics to assess and redirect efforts during all phases on an annual recruiting cycle. Recommend procedures to improve the recruitment of viable prospective students. (10%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Determine appropriate events for prospective students. Manage all visits; arrange tours and meetings with current students and faculty. Follow-up and maintain rigorous contact during student decision cycle. Educate prospective students on the benefits attending the Case School of Engineering. (5%)Plan undergraduate and graduate informational activities aimed at educating students about research possibilities within assigned departments. Advise all student organizations such as meetings of the student organization chapters, student seminars, and town hall meetings. Promote graduate student social and professional organizations and activities within the departments. Keep faculty informed of student functions. (5%)Advise graduate student organizations and serve as expert and resource for all applicants and currently enrolled students. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current policies and procedures relative to graduate students and graduate programs based in the school as well as university-based programs. (5%)Work with the undergraduate studies office and department chairs or appointee assigning undergraduate student advisors. Also, provide academic & research administration manager with student statistics for all department surveys such as ECEDHA, Tableau survey, NSF-NIH survey, etc. (5%)Manage the schedule of Ph.D. qualifier exams with the associate chairs and the divisional graduate studies committees. Advertise all M.S. and Ph.D. defenses in a proper and timely manner. (5%)Oversee the graduate student appointment process. Involves working with academic & research administration manager, graduate student coordinator, faculty advisors, university administration, and students to determine amount and source of financial support. Ensure that confidentiality of information is strictly maintained. (4%)Perform other duties as assigned. (1%)

CONTACTS

Department: Daily contact with department chairs, faculty and other staff in assigned departments to discuss student affairs issues and administrative duties. Regular contact with student groups within assigned departments to discuss student affairs and issues that they might have.

University: Regular contact with staff in various central administration offices such as Dean’s Office of The Case School of Engineering, Office of Undergraduate Studies, International Student Office, Financial Aid and Office of the University Registrar. Contact with Office of Marketing, the Division of Engineering Leadership and Professional Programs at the Case School of Engineering, other departmental Student Affairs liaisons within the Case School of Engineering, Housing and Resident Life, university office of Financial Aid. Contact with the University Career Center to provide information to students about mock interview opportunities. Contact with Office of Planning and Institutional Research to gather all statistical information on degrees and programs.

External: Regular contact with prospective undergraduate and graduate students at recruiting events outside the university. Regular contact with faculty, academic advisors and admissions staff from other universities. Regular contact with businesses outside the university with the intention to distribute relevant information to students about prospective professional positions that may be available. Regular contact with undergraduate graduate students and parents inquiring/applying for admission to our department programs.

Students: Regular, daily contact with undergraduate students who have questions or concerns that needs to be brought to the attention of the department staff, department faculty or department chairs. QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible related experience in areas providing a responsive, customer driven environment. Prior experience in a college setting in a student affairs or related support function is ideal while we will train the right candidate.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS

    Proven administrative ability to establish priorities in the position and work independently, little or no supervision required.Excellent communication skills, written and oral. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. Passion for customer service and helping others.Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office especially excel, Word, PowerPoint, database reporting tools, Google Drive and Adobe Acrobat. As well as an aptitude for learning new programs. Proficient in People Soft Financial Management Systems.Ability to meet consistent attendance.
