    Job Summary

    : The Assistant Professor is a full-time, tenure track position in the Department of Counseling. The School Counselor Education program is fully online. The Assistant Professor will teach graduate level courses related to School Counseling and Counseling and supervise students in practicums and internships as needed by the Department. The Assistant Professor will also collaborate with faculty in the Department, College, and University as well as assist with departmental activities and initiatives. Opportunities for cross-disciplinary teaching, research, and service are encouraged. We seek candidates interested in working with us to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse, multicultural, technology-driven society.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Teach graduate level courses;
    • Provide didactic and clinical instruction in School Counseling and across the other departmental disciplines as needed via Livetext, Desire2Learn (D2L) and other technical modalities;
    • Maintain office hours on campus and virtually (off-campus);
    • Participate with student recruitment;
    • Pursue a research agenda through various scholarly activities;
    • Participate in research and extension activities;
    • Advise students in the major;
    • Participate in continuous assessment of program-level and student learning outcomes;
    • Provide service to the Department, College, University and professional organizations;
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
    • Provide an on-campus presence to meet with and to serve students, and to work with colleagues in the department and across campus to fulfill service roles;
    • Support counseling program in development and execution of in-person and online counseling courses, program evaluation, and accreditation/licensing processes;
    • Provide supervision to students at practicum and internship site placements;
    • Establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with student site placements and site supervisors; and
    • Develop and maintain visibility in the state, region, and nation through participation and involvement in professional organizations/conferences and other scholarly activities.


    Qualifications

    MINIMUM:

    • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited university or other closely related discipline and/or counselor educators who were fully assigned to a Counselor Educator program prior to July 1, 2013;
    • Strong professional identity as a counselor; evidence of commitment to the profession of counseling (e.g., publication in refereed counseling journals, appropriate certifications, leadership in counseling organizations, successful clinical experience);
    • Georgia School Counselor certification and LPC or CRC strongly preferred;
    • Strong evidence of effective and diverse university teaching experience;
    • An ability to use technology as a teaching tool and demonstrate the ability to teach and work meaningfully with persons from culturally-rich and linguistically-diverse backgrounds; and
    • Experience providing direct services with clients as a professional counselor, school counselor, or related field.

    PREFERRED:

    • University level online synchronous, asynchronous, and/or hybrid teaching experience within the last five years; and
    • Demonstrated experience and commitment to continued professional development in best practices in teaching and learning within the last five years.
    • Doctorate required in Counselor Education or related field
