Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Research Program Associate is a full-time, grant funded position set to end September 30, 2022 with the possibility of extension until July 2023.

The responsibilities for this position are to assist a grant-funded project team, under the direction of a Vassar principal investigator, with the following goals to develop an understanding of the gender profitability gap.

(A) Improved Understanding of Global Business and Policy Environment for WOE Using existing data, the research team will curate a dataset describing a realistic picture of the macro-level constraints WOE are encountering. Information on the laws and policies WOE face will be compiled from information in the Women, Business and Law Index, the UCLA WORLD Policy Analysis Center Gender Data, and the Social Institutions & Gender Index from the OECD Development Center. This dataset will be a lens through which to analyze secondary data on gender profitability gaps. (B) Increasing Knowledge of Global Stylized Facts, Trends, and Predictors of Gender Profit Gap Using existing secondary data, they will construct and analyze a global country-year panel dataset to document the magnitude and evolution of gender gaps in enterprise participation, characteristics, and performance, including less proximate gaps such as occupational and sectoral concentration. They will compile evidence on key predictors of the gender profit gap, and how these predictors change over time and geographies. Responsibilities:
The Research Program Associate will be responsible for working independently and with the project team to support both goals as follows:
  • Research, identify, download, and analyze data
  • Assist with curating datasets and writing up accompanying reports
  • Assist with communications and processes to get access to restricted data
  • Write code to analyze data, and write up accompanying reports
  • Read journal articles and synthesize information
  • Draft policy briefs and journal articles
  • Otherwise support and assist team members with related activities and needs.





Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
  • Flexible, problem solver with a can-do attitude who is interested in supporting research.
  • Energetic and creative thinker who collaborates well with a team and who can also work independently.
  • Strong writing and research skills. Ability to analyze information and communicate it effectively.
  • Strong proficiency with data collection, review, analysis and reporting.
  • Strong proficiency with the use of software platforms and high degree of comfort with multiple technology applications, including Excel, Google Suite, Word, PowerPoint, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite and databases. Willingness to learn new software as needed.
