Job Description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri is seeking outstanding applicants for (Assistant or Associate or Full Professor) tenure-track Mechanical Engineering faculty position in the areas of robotics and controls, thermal sciences, and data sciences. Candidates demonstrating research alignment with both the departmental strengths in advanced manufacturing and Center for Advanced Manufacturing in the newly formed Kummer Institute are especially of interest. Exceptional candidates in other relevant areas of mechanical engineering not mentioned above will also be considered. The Kummer Institute (https://kummerinstitute.mst.edu) was established through a $300 million gift that promises to transform Missouri S&T and the region by cultivating leadership and technological innovation, nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset, fostering expansion of academic-industry partnerships to address the emerging needs of industry, and creating economic growth for the region, state and nation.

Successful candidates will demonstrate commitments to (a) establishing a strong, externally funded research program, (b) high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, (c) service in the applicant’s professional community and our institution, and (d) increasing the diversity of the student body and faculty. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in research and evidence of potential for excellence in external funding, high-quality teaching, service, and increasing diversity. Additionally, senior candidates should have demonstrated excellence in externally funded research and high-quality teaching. Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

Missouri S&T’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is the largest department on campus. During the past five years, research expenditures of the MAE Department have doubled, with broad support across federal and industrial sponsors, Ph.D. enrollment has doubled, and four faculty have received prestigious NSF CAREER and AFOSR or ONR Young Investigator awards. Faculty in the department have access to 25 research centers on campus, including the Materials Research Center, Intelligent Systems Center, and Center for Aerospace Manufacturing Technologies.
