Job Summary

The Building Services team provides cleaning and building care services in the University's buildings and offices with an emphasis on Service Excellence based on a hospitality model across all functions. The hospitality model emphasizes the customer experience and empowers the Building Services Team to proactively pursue solutions to our customers' needs and concerns within an environment of collaboration, positive interaction, service, stewardship, placemaking and belonging.

A Building Services Intermediate cleans, sanitizes and disinfects classroom buildings, offices, athletic facilities, dining halls, etc, performs light maintenance work and porter service at events, operates heavy equipment completing tasks and special projects such as floorcare, electrostatic disinfection, distributes supplies, launder cleaning rags and maintain equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Performs basic cleaning (sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, and/or replenishing supplies/products) to keep assigned working areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Cleans the interior and exterior of buildings, using the appropriate materials.
  • Maintains proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the assigned storage areas.
  • Operates cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, pressure washers, walk behinds, scissor lifts and ride-on scrubbers.
  • Works with others to keep vehicles and employee work areas clean and orderly.
  • Performs other duties outside cleaning such as porter services at events and essential services when the university is closed due to weather or other emergencies
  • Strips, waxes, scrubs and polishes floors and washes laundry.
  • Responsible for light maintenance work duties within the employee’s abilities. These duties may include replacing lamps, light bulbs, smoke alarm batteries; replacing and/or washing HVAC filters; repairing restroom accessories; replacing window screens; unclogging toilets, lavatories, and urinals; locating and stopping leaking faucets; and making minor repairs to drywall, ceilings, flooring; and, painting interior surfaces.
  • Inspects buildings, fixtures, machines and other structural or mechanical units and notes repair needs using a pre-established checklist. Submits directly by iPad, maintenance requests, using the existing work order system (AiM) and reports major or emergency maintenance needs to the supervisor. Responds to work orders as assigned by the supervisor and submits work requests for work performed without an existing work order. Assists in ensuring compliance with maintenance and custodial policies and procedures. Provides detailed description of major repairs necessary when escalating work requests to other team members.
  • Recognizes and obtains required tools, equipment, materials, and supplies that are needed to do the job. Maintains proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the assigned storage areas.
  • Works with others to keep equipment and employee work areas clean and orderly.
  • Participates in department-provided training and learning opportunities to develop work-related skills and abilities. Completes all required training on a timely basis.

Required Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: One or more years of institutional, industrial or commercial custodial experience.

Certification/License: Valid driver's license.

Availability: Must be able to work special events (varied hours and weekends)

Preferred Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Certification/License: Valid driver's license. Custodial Technician certification or similar certification in custodial professional development.

Experience: Six months or more years of floorcare experience working in custodial or environmental services in a school or hospital setting. Experience in troubleshooting and repairing floor care equipment.

Proposed Salary

$13.27 - $14.07/hr

  • Basic computer skills including email, web browser, and mobile devices.
  • Must be able to complete tasks efficiently within a designated time frame.
  • Must be able to learn procedures and retain information.
  • Knowledge of a variety of cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to operate various cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, pressure washer, walk behind, scissor lifts and ride-on scrubbers.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and determine the necessary tasks to be performed.

Must be attentive to the needs of residents and responds according to standard operating procedures, displaying a positive demeanor and helpful attitude at all times. Must effectively listen and respond to customer needs and understands the role of customers in the work environment.Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Must listen to instructions and ask necessary questions to complete tasks. Communicate with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed efficiently and effectively at a high standard.
