Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Two years of related experience in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Human Resources, or other related fields (e.g., customer service-based fields) required.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Develops, coordinates, and delivers advisor training and professional development for all SHSU advising staff. Creates curriculum that is current with best practice of peer institutions and responsible for assessment of impact and effectiveness of training delivered.

Primary Responsibilities:

Designs and maintains training schedules and professional development schedules for Sam Center staff and campus advising partners. Leads efforts to develop, coordinate, and deliver new advisor training and onboarding. Stays current regarding the latest training methods and techniques and uses the knowledge to prepare and coordinate future training sessions, particularly in regard to academic advising. Determines and implements appropriate training methods or activities (e.g., simulations, mentoring, on-the-job training) based on population to be trained and information/skill to be learned. Communicates training and professional development opportunities to Sam Center staff and campus advising partners. Aligns training and professional development activities with best practice standards and competencies as articulated by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and the Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) in Higher Education and other professional organizations as appropriate. Responsible for ongoing assessment of training/professional development efforts and assists with other assessment needs for the Sam Center as needed. Assesses instructional effectiveness and determines methods to assess the impact of training on employee skills, knowledge, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Develops customized reports and infographics to effectively communicate program effectiveness and impact. Communicates and collaborates effectively with all campus stakeholders using a variety of methods. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Previous experience delivering training to professionals preferred. Demonstrated experience successfully collaborating across departments desirable.
