The Department of History and Archaeology at the American University of Beirut invites applications for one tenure-track assistant professor faculty position in Late Medieval and/ or early Modern Middle East/ Islamic history to begin August 15, 2022.
The position is open to scholars of all sub regions and thematic interests, but the department especially welcomes applications of candidates working on subjects that address issues relevant to intellectual/ cultural and/or social history within a comparative perspective. PhD must be in hand by the time of appointment. The appointee will provide undergraduate and graduate teaching in his/her field of specialization as well as more general topics covered in the department’s regular program. Aside from teaching, the successful candidate is expected to participate actively in the supervision of graduate students, engage in productive research, and contribute to academic service related to the department, the faculty of Arts and Sciences and the University at large. The language of instruction is English but good command of Arabic is a plus.
Appointments at the assistant professor rank are for an initial period of three years.
