Nature of Work:

The Translational Breast Cancer Research Group is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team of interdisciplinary investigators focused on mechanisms of breast cancer drug resistance and metastasis. This full time Postdoctoral research position will provide training in working with patient specimens, pre-clinical oncology models and next generation sequencing with an emphasis on single cell technologies. There will be opportunities for learning bioinformatics skills. This Postdoctoral Fellow position will bridge the interests of the Carol Sartorius, Ph.D. and Peter Kabos, M.D. laboratories. The fellow will have the opportunity to interact researchers from multiple disciplines, both locally and nationally. The overall goals of the Postdoctoral Fellow position are to advance knowledge of metastatic breast cancer with improvement in medicines that will help transform late-stage breast cancer into a chronic disease.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Execution of molecular biology assays including protein/mRNA/DNA extraction, processing, and analysis.
  • Processing and management of patient tissue samples (serum, normal tissues, tumor tissues and fluid).
  • Next generation sequencing applications including single cell platforms; understanding of genomic-based platforms and sample preparation.
  • Working with primary breast cancer cell lines and organoids.
  • Complete research projects, data analysis, and prepare research presentations and written manuscripts for first author publications.
  • Collaboration with other laboratories including PIs, other postdoctoral fellows, and bioinformaticians with opportunities for co-authorships.
  • Presenting research at national and international scientific meetings.
  • Opportunities to submit grants for postdoctoral research fellowships.
Salary and Benefits:

Current NIH salary levels for 0-3 years of experience: $53,760 - $56,712.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD degree, or expected graduation within 6 months, from an accredited college or university in the biological sciences or related field.
  • Experience in cancer research with skills in molecular and cellular biology techniques and working with laboratory animals.
  • A publication record in PubMed referenced journals.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with molecular biology techniques including RNA/DNA isolation, tissue culture, immunohistochemistry.
  • Experience with animal models of cancer and/or patient samples.
  • Prior experience in next generation sequencing.
  • Knowledge of programming software including R.

  • Excellent skills in scientific writing.
  • Ability to work independently yet collaboratively.
  • A strong work ethic and commitment to being a team player and advancing knowledge in the field.
