Assistant Professor of Computer Science (Tenure-Track)

Position Available

The Avila University College of Science & Health, guided by the mission of excellence in teaching and learning, and dedicated to the service to the Dear Neighbor is actively seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science. This is a 10 month/year position.

Appointment Date

August 2022


  • Ability to teach all levels of undergraduate computer science courses.  Candidates from all areas of computer science are encouraged to apply that will strengthen the computer science program.  Areas of particular interest including data science or machine learning.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and assessing a computer science curriculum.
  • Create an environment in the classroom which facilitates effective student learning.
  • Maintain professional scholarship with student mentoring opportunities.
  • Advise and motivate students to think, to question, and to critically analyze.
  • Vibrantly participate in recruiting efforts for the computer science programming.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess a Doctoral degree in computer science, data science, or a related field for a Tenure-Track position. 
  • Doctoral candidates with All but Dissertation (ABD) status would be considered for a Visiting Assistant Professor position that could be converted when the degree is conferred.
  • Full time faculty will be academically and experientially qualified and maintain expertise in areas of responsibility. 
  • Successful candidates will have the ability to teach a mix of courses in computer science.  
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a wide variety of settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience is desirable.
  • Teaching experience desirable in baccalaureate education.

Competitive for small, private liberal arts higher education institutions within the Kansas City area.
