College of the Sequoias is seeking an equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Business Department beginning August 2022.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for the teaching assignment will be in General Business (e.g., Entrepreneurship, Business English, Finance, and Business Communication) and Computer Application courses (Computer Concepts and Introduction to Computers, and Keyboarding).

Assignments may include evening classes, weekend classes, online, and teaching at our locations in Visalia, Hanford, and/or Tulare.

Participation in the governance of the District by way of committee assignments is expected. Other responsibilities include maintenance of a number of office hours, full participation in departmental responsibilities, and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, justice, and appreciation for diversity throughout the college.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must meet the following criteria. The degree must be from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent.
  • Master's in business, business management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing, technology management or business education OR
  • Bachelors in any of the above AND Masters in economics, personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree OR
  • Bachelors in economics with a business emphasis AND Masters in personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree OR
  • The equivalent AND
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

    The Business Division is looking for evidence of the following:
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) is highly desirable
  • Recent teaching experience in General Business courses and a strong background in computer applications and system hardware and software in the adult, secondary, and/or college/university level.
  • A background in business, marketing, finance, etc., and a strong background in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Familiarity with the educational needs of community college students pursuing a certificate, degree, and/or transferring to a four-year university.
  • Experience and a commitment to working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic, and disability backgrounds.
  • Evidence of ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention while successfully challenging a diverse student population.
  • Ability to make a positive contribution to the instructional program at College of the Sequoias by developing instructional activities, course syllabi, course outlines, and other necessary material.
  • Ability to incorporate student learning outcome objectives within courses and programs and assess those outcomes.
  • Experience in alternative instructional modes.

    College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

    In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

    COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
