Description:
A post-doctoral scholar position is available immediately in the Van Bael and Karubian Labs to work on NSF funded work related to tropical trees and soil microbiota in Ecuador. The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University values diversity in all forms and is committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. The project will involve (1) fieldwork in Ecuador to collect samples of tropical trees and soils (2) a large shadehouse experiment with 16 tree species in Ecuador (3) Laboratory work at Tulane to prepare genomic libraries for sequencing. The post-doctoral associate will interact with a large team of researchers working on several aspects of a reforestation project in Ecuador.
Applicants with a background in some of the following are especially encouraged to apply: tropical field ecology, plant-microbe interactions, tropical tree diversity, and genomics.
The latest possible start date is May 1st, 2022. The position would be for one year (contingent upon annual review at year 1) with the possibility of further extension. The starting salary is $54,000/year + full benefits.

Qualifications:
Required:
PhD in one of these fields: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Plant Biology, or Genetics/Genomics.
Preferred:
Experience working with genomic data, a strong conceptual background in tropical ecology, especially relating to plants, and experience with field work.
