Primary Function of Organizational Unit :

The Office for Faculty Excellence provides faculty development programming and support to tenured, tenure-track, full-time fixed term and part-time faculty, and emerging faculty (graduate students) with the mission of “Supporting Outstanding Faculty in Their Teaching, Research, & Service through Faculty Development Programming and Consultation. Supporting Student Learning through Outstanding Faculty.”

The office works with partners to program over 160 programs during the year and three summer workshop series including Research and Statistics, Teaching with Technology Summer Academy, and Introduction to College Teaching Series. In addition, the OFE coordinates New Faculty Orientation, the University Teaching Awards Program and other awards efforts, and provides consulting and workshop on teaching, progress toward tenure/promotions, and many other topics.

Job Duties :

This is a temporary position for November 1, 2021 – April 29, 2022.

The Instructional Designer will provide course design support to faculty in order to create effective and engaging learning environments that result in desired learning outcomes. The person in this role will consult with faculty and subject matter experts from diverse disciplines to identify evidence-based instructional strategies that align with course goals. An area of focus will be the integration of innovative and technology enhanced course components to facilitate online learning.
The Instructional Designer will provide pedagogical training to faculty through workshops, webinars, video tutorials regarding topics related to online teaching, the Canvas Learning Management system, Course Design, and instructional technology. Support provided to faculty should be grounded in the Quality Matters and Universal Design for Learning frameworks.

Responsibilities & Duties

-Provide instructional design support to faculty through consultation with individuals and collaborative course design teams. -Assist faculty in the direct development of course materials for delivery of hybrid and online courses. -Assist faculty with conversion of face-to-face courses to hybrid and online formats. -Collaborate, assist, develop and facilitate professional development workshops and symposiums, particularly with regard to course design, online teaching, and technology-enhanced instruction.-Create high quality videos, graphics, animations, and other interactive material using a variety of tools.-Design content to optimize learning.

Position is contingent upon available funding.

Minimum Education/Experience :

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience or a master’s degree.


License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

-At least 5 years of experience designing interactive content in higher education
-Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning and Quality Matters frameworks-Fundamental understanding of HTML-Proficiency using Adobe products and other interactive tools (e.g., H5P, Kahoot, etc..)-Ability and willingness to quickly learn new tools-Experience using Canvas or similar LMS-Experience using Audio and Video Editing Tools
