POSITION:

Assistant Professor of Political Science: The Department of Political Science, Public Administration, and Leadership Studies invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Political Science (subfield: Political Theory) at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking someone with a strong general Political Theory background and the ability to apply theoretical concepts to important contemporary political issues. Specific area of expertise in political theory is open. The individual appointed to this position will be expected to teach a variety of upper-division Political Theory courses, including, but not limited to: Ancient and Medieval Political Thought (PSCI 3000), Political Thought in the Modern World (PSCI 3011), Marx on the Human Condition (PSCI 3055), American Political Thought (PSCI 3030), and Political Ideologies (PSCI 4050). The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop courses in their area of specialization. Candidates with an interest in connecting their expertise to discussions focused on race, inequality, and social justice and connecting with students, colleagues and members of the public to help facilitate these dialogues are encouraged to apply. In addition to Political Theory courses, there may be opportunity to teach theory-oriented courses in Comparative Politics, International Relations, or American Politics, and possibly courses in the Master of Public Administration or Leadership Studies programs. The annual teaching load may include a section of lower-division American Government (PSCI 1201). Although the position is based in Turlock, there may be some occasional teaching responsibilities at the Stockton Campus. The Program, Department, College and University take great pride in “meeting students where they are” to provide effective teaching and mentoring. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. in Political Science or closely related field is required for this tenure track appointment. Candidates with ABD status will be considered beyond the initial round of review only if the dissertation advisor confirms the candidate is on track to complete all requirements for the Ph.D. by August 17, 2020. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong potential for programmatic research and publication relevant to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Substantial evidence of excellent teaching at the university level, dedication to student success, and a proven record of scholarship.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE NOTICE
