Responsibilities

Responsible for establishing, maintaining and updating the lighting support policies and procedures for the School of Theatre. Establish quality standards and monitor each production to ensure professional quality standards are met. Occasional off campus travel required for the procurement of supplies and to transport equipment between on-campus locations.

Function as the head of the stage lighting technology department for the School of Theatre. Establish and monitor training policies for stage lighting technology and electric for the shows. Direct students or provide lighting technology support for the School of Theatre productions if no qualified students are available. Position regularly engages in physical labor including lifting up to 50 pounds, moving lighting equipment, loading University vehicles to transport equipment to production location, etc. Will use ladders to hang and repair lighting equipment. Occasional loads of 100 pounds which are moved with the help of machinery or another person.

Supervise students and OPS as needed. Oversee an annual operating budget in excess of $10,000. Oversee equipment expense budgets which vary between $2,500 and $15,000.

Start date would be January 2022.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in lighting design technology or other related degree and four years experience related to the duties of this position; or a high school diploma and eight years of experience related to the duties of this position. (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

Experience in interpreting lighting design renderings.

Experience working with Vectorworks and Lightwright.

Experience in constructing lighting for shows to include planning, lighting techniques and operating mechanical and small hand tools.

Experience providing instruction in the correct and safe operation and maintenance of the items used in a theatre including tools, equipment, lighting peripherals and lighting boards.

Experience preparing and monitoring budget information.

Able to meet the physical demands of the position to include the ability to move objects up to 100 pounds with the assistance of machinery or another person.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license, or the ability to obtain one prior to start date.

Preferred

MFA in lighting design/technology is preferred.

Anticipated Salary Range

Salary range is mid to upper thirties, commensurate with experience

Schedule

M-F, 8am-5pm. Nights and weekends required during light hang, focus, and technical rehearsals and other events as required. Schedule may vary according to production schedule.
