Stockton University is seeking to fill a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security for September 2022. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in teaching in a liberal arts environment. The Criminal Justice program specifically seeks applicants to teach courses in criminological theories at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as courses in Homeland Security practice and/or policy.

Responsibilities:

• The Primary teaching assignment of the candidate will be to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in two areas: criminological theories (criminology) and Homeland Security. Applicants are expected to model teaching excellence by demonstrating impact of pedagogical approaches. Teaching load is 12 hours each semester (3 courses at 4 credit hours).
  • Applicants must be able to teach Theories of Criminality (undergraduate level) or Criminological Theories (graduate level). See Stockton’s Course Catalog for descriptions of these courses.
  • Applicants must also be able to teach current offerings in Homeland Security as needed and will be expected to develop graduate and undergraduate courses in Homeland Security policy with a focus on topics (including, but not limited to) immigration, migration, refugee / asylum-seeking procedures, human trafficking, border enforcement, and/or citizenship and naturalization processes. These courses may incorporate other areas of criminal justice practice, including policing and law enforcement, courts and law, corrections, and/or victimology.
  • Applicants are also expected to contribute to the General Studies curriculum by teaching General Studies courses.
• Active engagement in a sustained research program. Active engagement should include developing independent research projects and managing them through to production of peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Priority will be given to applicants with a research agenda broadly focused on immigration- and migration-related topics, although the candidate's approach can overlap with other areas of Homeland Security (emergency management, terrorism and mass violence, and/or cybercrime), Criminal Justice (policing, courts, and/or corrections), and/or Victimology
• Contribute to the Stockton community at the program, school/university, and/or community levels through sustained and impactful service activities
• Support Stockton University's diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and mission

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• A PhD, JD, or other doctoral terminal degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homeland Security, or related fields [for example, Sociology, Anthropology, Legal Studies, Legal Psychology, or Political Science] is required for appointment as an Assistant Professor. Candidates with ABD will be considered for the position, but should demonstrate plans for completion of degree no later than December 31, 2022

Preferred Qualifications:

• Practical experience in criminal justice, community advocacy, relevant volunteer or staff positions, and/or fields of legal practice is of benefit
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship
