Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10 Months) Tenure Track position as Instructor of Business Administrator in the Division of Business and Workforce Development located at San Jose City College.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

About Teaching in Business Administration

The college seeks a faculty candidate who can be a strong partner in achieving the mission and vision of the college and district.

The mission of the San Jose City College Business Program is to provide a comprehensive and relevant student-centered curriculum for multiple career pathways, university transfer, and life-long learning opportunities. Our focus is to challenge and empower our students through teaching excellence to succeed and thrive in a dynamic global environment. Additionally, faculty in Business and Workforce Development division respond to the workforce needs of the Silicon Valley region, while supporting economic mobility of our diverse community. The college offers programs in Business Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Administration, Real Estate and Management. The programs lead to either an AS Degree in Business or a Completion Certificate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide leadership and assistance in planning and coordination to grow the Business programs.

2. Participate in associate faculty hiring processes, peer reviews and mentoring.

3. Foster relationships with current and prospective community partners including members of the Advisory Board and employers.

4. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

5. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

6. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

7. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

8. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.

9. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

10. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

11. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.

12. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

13. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Master’s in Business, Business Management, Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, Marketing or Business Education

OR

Bachelor’s in any of the above

AND

Master’s in Economics, Personnel Management, Public Administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.)

OR

Bachelor’s in Economics with a Business emphasis

AND

Master’s in Personnel Management, Public Administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.)

OR

*The Equivalent

Desired Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated expertise in digital marketing and new technologies with respect to Business.

2. Experience with Technology Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Studies

3. Relevant experience in Computer Information System, Business Analysts

4. Interested in computer-enhanced instruction and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit program.

5. Experience recruiting industry partners to serve on advisory boards.

6. A minimum of two years of work experience in a Business Administration environment.

7. Teaching experience at the community college level.

8. Experience in developing business transfer curriculum and strengthening transfer program including certificates and degrees.

9. Experience in promoting and maintain articulation agreements with public and private four-year institutions.

10. Experience in online course development and/or teaching.

11. Emphasis on student centered and service learning to develop such workplace skills as team building, problem solving, and decision making skills.

12. Bilingual abilities, desirable.

    Salary Range:
    $81,767 to $112,242 Entry Level Annual Salary (10 Month Academic Salary Schedule 2021-2022); Maximum Salary Potential $145,632. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
