The MCNHS Department of Nursing invites applicants to join our diverse college as a tenure-track or tenured faculty member beginning September 1, 2022. Rank, tenure and salary are dependent on qualifications and experience. Research experience for all ranks is required and an established program of research with evidence of external funding is required for tenure consideration. Applicants must possess an earned research doctorate in nursing or a related field, with strong preference to those eligible for RN licensure in Massachusetts. Preference will be given to applicants with funded research and peer-reviewed data-based publications focused on health equity, mental health or adult health. Teaching, mentoring and leadership experience in higher education is preferred; experience in other settings will be considered. We are particularly interested in faculty with leadership experience who will strengthen our initiatives in adult health, psychiatric mental health, and who are committed to teaching a diverse student population in an urban setting. Our faculty needs are across our graduate and undergraduate programs in nursing. Our programs focus on health in urban populations of all ages and target improving health equity in populations at risk for healthcare disparities. For more information, please go to www.umb.edu/academics/cnhs.

The Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers strong support and mentoring for faculty, including grant proposal preparation and submission, and post-award support. The College offers a wide range of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative research opportunities. Current faculty collaborations include those with numerous major academic and medical institutions in and around Boston, including the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital and many community, public, and private health care agencies. The National Cancer Institute funds the University of Massachusetts Boston-Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center grant (https://umb-dfhcc.org/); this longstanding collaboration has enabled faculty at both institutions to strengthen and extend partnerships for research, PhD training, and community outreach.

The BS, MS, and DNP nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The MS and DNP programs focus on preparation of Family Nurse Practitioners, Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioners, and Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialists. The PhD in nursing program focuses on population health and health policy.

The positions will remain open until filled. UMass Boston is committed to being an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and recognizes the power of a diverse community. We strongly encourage applications from racial minorities, protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, and those with varied experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds to consider UMass Boston as their employer of choice.

To apply, submit a letter of interest and curriculum vitae.

For more information, please contact Dr. Haeok Lee, Chair, Faculty Search Committee

Working at University of Massachusetts Boston

The University of Massachusetts Boston is nationally recognized as a model of excellence for urban public universities. The scenic waterfront campus is located next to the John F. Kennedy Library, with easy access to downtown Boston.

The second-largest campus in the UMass system, UMass Boston combines a small-college experience with the vast resources of a major research university. With a 16:1 student-to-faculty ratio, students easily interact with professors because most teaching occurs in small class sizes. Ninety-three percent of full-time faculty hold the highest degree in their fields.

UMass Boston’s academic excellence is reflected by a growing student body of nearly 16,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university’s eight colleges offer more than 100 undergraduate programs and 50 graduate programs. The University Honors Program serves 300 students who thrive on intellectual challenge. Enriched courses probe more deeply into theory or venture further into application.

UMass Boston’s diverse student body provides a global context for student learning, and its location in a major U.S. city provides connections to employers in industries such as finance, health care, technology, service, and education, offering students opportunities to gain valuable in-school experience via internships, clinicals, and other career-related placements.

More than 100 student organizations — including clubs, literary magazines, newspaperradio stationart gallery, and 16 NCAA Division III sports teams — offer a rich campus life. Students live throughout Greater Boston and in apartment communities just steps from the campus, and enjoy the rich amenities, cultural attractions, and educational opportunities that make the city the biggest and best college town in the nation.
