Tracking Code2804Job Description

We invite applications for a full time Psychiatric Medical Director. CARD was established at Boston University in 1996, and has been supporting our faculty as leaders in research on emotion and emotional disorders, as well as empirically-supported clinical training and service delivery. CARD is a non-profit, outpatient, Department of Public Health licensed, mental health clinic affiliated with the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Boston University. The Medical Director position consists of an exciting and diverse combination of clinical, teaching, administrative, and research responsibilities. The position includes participation in CARD’s practice plan, delivering cognitive behavioral psychotherapy (CBT) with or without medication management to clinical patients with primary anxiety and mood presentations. The Medical Director also provides medication and medical consultations for other providers within the clinic. Additionally, the Medical Director coordinates and conducts supervision and training in the delivery of CBT to advanced psychiatry residents from the Boston University School of Medicine. Administrative responsibilities include contributing to the ongoing development and implementation of CARD policies and procedures to fulfill compliance with Department of Public Health regulations for outpatient clinics. The Medical Director also conducts medication and health status consultations to determine patient eligibility for participation in sponsored research programs. Many of our studies additionally require medication management for active study participants. Opportunities also exist to develop an independent line of related research. The scope of consults is primarily adult, but ability to manage adolescent/child patient/participant populations is ideal. The position is granted a 12 month, non-tenure track, Clinical Assistant Professor appointment. The preferred start date is March 1, 2022 with some flexibility allowed.

Applicants should hold a degree from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy, including completion of an accredited psychiatry residency training program and a current valid, unrestricted license to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Board certification in Psychiatry is required. Here at CARD we believe that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our clinical and research programs. Thus, we are especially eager to recruit a new colleague who supports our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, and diverse. The search remains open until the position is filled. CARD offers a competitive salary and fringe benefits.

Organization

The Difference Is Our DNA

What compelled the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to award Boston University a grant to fight newborn mortality in Zambia? Why did Martin Luther King, Jr. adopt BU as a place where he could hone his message of justice and equality? And what is the catalyst that prompts 32,557 students from 135 countries to call BU their home every semester? It’s in our DNA: an inherent desire in each of our students, faculty, and staff to vigorously and dauntlessly pursue knowledge—and embrace the unlimited possibilities that come with it.

A Community Unlike Any Other

As you can see below, it takes people, ideas, and a little luck (Boston, you’re our town) to make BU what it is today: one of the most dynamic universities in the world.

Celebrated thinkers: On any given day, students will find themselves mesmerized by Nobel Prize winners, a poet laureate, and the first biomedical engineer ever to receive a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Award,” among others.

Extraordinary teaching: When a classroom starts to percolate with new ideas, it’s because our faculty of scholars and accomplished practitioners know how to ignite students’ imaginations. That’s why we reward our best teachers with BU’s most prestigious honor: The Metcalf Cup and Prize.

Groundbreaking research: With faculty dedicated to a creative, interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, BU has become a leading global research institution—propelled forward by over $350 million a year in sponsored program revenue.

World-class students: Elite students from all 50 states and 135 countries pursue higher education on BU campuses in Boston and at programs in L.A., D.C., and more than 30 other cities on six continents.

A city within a city: Today, 80% of our undergrads live on campus, which could explain the 525 student activity groups alone.

The greatest college town in the world: Boston. ’Nuff said.
