This position will be a hybrid work schedule. Candidates will be expected to work both on-site on UCSD Campus and have the opportunity to work remotely after completing completing training.

DESCRIPTION

Want to make a difference? Come join the Department of Pediatrics sponsored projects team! We are hiring for an outstanding professional for our business office team to help with our research awards. This position will manage a complex portfolio of research awards and assist Researchers in the department aspects of pre and post award management. You will help the team by providing comprehensive financial analysis and complex fiscal management.

The Department of Pediatrics manages approximately $83 million in awarded sponsored project expenses per year. Each division's financial management involves multiple Investigators and funding sources (federal, state, private grants including contracts, gifts, clinical trials, subawards, fellowships, service agreements, and UC Foundation funds).

You will have the opportunity to engage in proposal development and award management with numerous funding agencies including, federal, various state, county, private and industry sponsors as well as coordinate with central offices at UCSD.

We are an innovative department who is looking to expand and streamline. Your input, suggestions, and assistance will be very important to help us establish new procedures and add agility to existing processes. We also strive to develop and meet changing needs by developing and employing a variety of sophisticated reporting systems and tools for forecasting short and long term financial planning, identify problem areas, formulate creative and alternative solutions and make recommendations for a wide variety of financial and administrative issues.

In this position you will also collaborate closely with the investigators to develop research proposals, oversee awards and transactions related to contract and grant management and maintain contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. This position receives assignments on a project specific basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in a related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training. In order to be considered for the Research Adm 3 level, must have a least three (3) years of relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.

  • Proven ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

  • Strong ability to analyze complex financial issues, recognize potential impact, identify creative and alternative solutions; implement recommendations.

  • Proficient competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.

  • Proven ability to maintain a professional attitude during interaction and collaboration with a wide range of personalities. Excellent communication and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Experience with UCSD on-line and web based accounting and personnel systems.
