Summary of Duties:

The Department of Accounting (ACCTG) in the Carson College of Business at Washington State University in Pullman, WA is seeking qualified candidates for one full-time, career track position in Business Law. This is a renewable, three-year appointment from August 16, 2022 to May 15, 2025. The rank is open, and although we anticipate hiring at the assistant level, we are also open to exceptional candidates at higher ranks. An Associate level candidate will have significant teaching experience at the higher education level.The position is non-tenure track and subject to budget approval.

The position is targeted toward supporting a substantial strategic revision to our undergraduate core curriculum. As such, teaching will include a sophomore level introductory course, Law and the Legal Environment of Business as well as other classes to be determined based on individual qualifications and departmental needs. The successful candidate will be required to teach six or eight courses per year (3 or 4 per semester) depending on whether research is part of expected duties. Successfully publishing in practice and pedagogical scholarship is expected for candidates with a teaching load of six courses per year. Rank-appropriate service contributions to the Department, College, University, and community are expected. Teaching in online programs may also be expected as part of the normal teaching load. We are in the process of evaluating our upper-division curriculum to ensure it is providing the best education for our students, including an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.There is an opportunity for a new hire to engage in this process.


Required Qualifications:

  • Earned JD or LLM by the time of hire.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching effectiveness.
  • Qualified individuals should have at least five years of full-time professional experience as an attorney or must provide evidence of an ability to publish in high quality, peer-reviewed legal journals.
  • For consideration at an associate level, candidates must additionally possess/demonstrate significant teaching experience at the higher education level.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • The preferred candidate would have experience with case-based or other interactive teaching methods.

The Carson College of Business (CCB) enrolls more than 2,500 undergraduate students and 1,200 online MBA and Executive MBA students combined. The Online MBA program is currently ranked 12th by Poets and Quants and 18th by U.S. News and World Report. The college has 92 full-time faculty across its campuses and 75 staff. Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
