Assistant Professor in Mathematical Biology
Position Description: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Cleveland State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematical Biology. The starting date of the appointment is August 22, 2022. CSU is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers B.S., B.A., and M.S. degrees in Mathematics, and an M.S. in Mathematics with a Specialization in Applied Statistics. The University, College of Sciences and Health Professions, and Department seek to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber. The successful applicant is expected to carry out an active program of research in mathematical biology, to seek external funding, and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses to our students in mathematics. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in the usual department and university service.
Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. earned by July 1, 2022 in mathematics or applied mathematics; an active research program in mathematical biology; strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: A strong research program in mathematical biology with experience in solving data-driven biological problems; research that complements or overlaps with the Department’s existing areas of research strength; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students; experience with innovative methods of instruction and assessment; a research agenda open to across-campus and off-campus collaborations; evidence of a substantial contribution to a successful academic event, initiative, or ongoing activity; the ability to contribute through research/scholarship, teaching, and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community. Successful candidates should be able to include undergraduate students in research while helping them prepare for graduate study, internships, or their future career.

The Cleveland State campus consists of 85 acres - the largest footprint in downtown Cleveland - with 40 buildings used for teaching, research, housing, administration, and recreation. Nineteen-story Rhodes Tower houses the University Library, classrooms, and many faculty offices, and is a striking feature on the Cleveland skyline. University buildings feature a blend of old and new architectural styles, with historic landmark Mather Mansion sharing the stage with such modern facilities as the Levin College of Urban Affairs and the 13,000-seat Wolstein Center.
