The AU/UGA Medical Partnership is looking for a dynamic, innovative academic medical educator with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to join the leadership team of the three-year categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program in Athens, GA as an Assistant Program Director. This position will offer enormous possibilities for developing and enhancing skills, leadership ability, and personal growth. The Assistant Program Director will assist the Program Director in the administration and operations of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, with a focus on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, and will have instructional, clinical, as well as scholarly responsibilities in addition to the administrative responsibilities. The individual in this position will also be responsible for serving as the Medical Director of the resident continuity clinic, Community Internal Medicine of Athens (CIMA), which includes overseeing clinic operations and teaching and supervising the Internal Medicine residents. The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor to commensurate with experience. Background Information: Augusta University and University of Georgia have partnered to create a four-year medical education program in Athens, GA, to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians. The AU/UGA Medical Partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the flagship land grant research university, with the expertise of the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, Georgia’s public medical school. The AU/UGA Medical Partnership has partnered with St. Mary’s Healthcare System as the major participating site to sponsor a three-year categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program in Athens, GA. Responsibilities The responsibilties include, but are not limited to:
    Implement and manage the development and execution of a comprehensive quality improvement curricula including didactics, supervising resident projects, and M&M/QI conference.May participate in supervising the Chief Resident in his/her activities such as Noon Conference and scheduling Academic Half-Day.Participate in recruitment of residents including reviewing applications and interviews.Participate in areas such as Research, Mentoring and Advising, Resident Wellness, and/or rotation development.Oversee resident appointment and participation with various hospital committees.Collaborate with data analyst to derive resident specific performance metrics.Distribute performance metrics to residents and supervise improvement plans derived from these metrics. Serve as Medical Director of the resident continuity clinic with responsibilities of overseeing clinic schedules and updates, facilitating clinic meetings, orienting new faculty, triaging phone calls/other requests, and implementing St. Mary’s policies and procedures as well as quality improvement processes to improve patient care and flow. Participate in the clinical practice of the Ambulatory/Outpatient resident continuity clinic including of teaching and supervising the Internal Medicine residents.Participate in scholarly activities including publishing and disseminating new and original work in peer-reviewed venues and mentoring residents to publish and disseminate their work in peer-reviewed venues including conferences.
Minimum Requirements Doctorate of Medicine or Osteopathic MedicineRequired Qualifications
    Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Medical SpecialtiesAble to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of GeorgiaAble to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privilegesAble to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license
Preferred Qualifications
    Completion of the IHI "Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety" preferred but not mandatory.
Shift/Salary Academic rank, tenure status and salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.Conditions of Employment All candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review.
