Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition

Penn State Harrisburg's School of Humanities invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition. This is a full-time, 36-week, tenure-line appointment starting Fall of 2022. The successful candidate will combine a strong background in rhetoric and composition, including research on effective writing, teaching of writing, assessment of writing, and/or writing program administration and a commitment to excellence in teaching of composition.

Typical requirements for this position include a Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition, or closely related field; prior research and publications or conference presentations in rhetoric and composition or closely related field; and prior experience teaching in higher education. ABDs may apply but must have their terminal degree completed by July 30, 2022.

Responsibilities for this role include:
  • Teach 3/3 load (2/3 the first 2 years) which includes teaching General Education courses in rhetoric and composition, as well as courses in the school's Bachelor of Humanities in English, in multicultural contexts to students of diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead the composition program in the future, including coordination of courses and faculty, training of adjuncts, and assessment efforts
  • Publish peer reviewed articles and give conference presentations related to composition and rhetoric
