JOB SUMMARY:

Full-time faculty members are professional educators whose primary responsibility is to provide a quality education for Central Arizona College students. Faculty members perform instruction-related and other duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the college. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher, mentor, facilitator and evaluator of learning.
 
To provide a quality education for Central Arizona College students.  Perform instruction-related and other duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the college. 

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Teach assigned health information management classes in accordance with the college workload policy via online instruction.
  • Provide and present information, content, and context through lecture, laboratory, recitation, seminars and/or other learning venues utilizing a variety of teaching/learning styles as appropriate to the health information management course content.
  • Employ a variety of assessment tools; evaluate grades and comment on student work in order to facilitate and ensure student progress throughout the course. Communicate with health information management students as appropriate. Communication may include email, online discussions, virtual chats within Blackboard or TEAMS, instant messaging (IM), telephone and/or face-to-face consultations to provide frequent feedback.  Refer health information management students to appropriate college and community services when needed.
  • Establish and maintain office hours per college policy. Maintain records of student progress and performance; complete and return required reports to the appropriate office by established due date. Develop, prepare and evaluate instructional materials that comply with the American Health Information Management (AHIMA) Associate Degree Competencies for Health Information Management education.
  • Review and update course outlines, text selection and syllabi in cooperation with other faculty and the health information management program director. Propose and develop new courses, curriculum, programs, instructional materials, and evaluation tools as necessary to meet the needs of the health information management students and community.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of health information management students through the development and implementation of teaching and learning strategies primarily in the instructional setting.
  • Collaborate with the  health information management program director to review and maintain the integrity of the curriculum within established college timelines or more frequently if necessary that comply with the American Health Information Management (AHIMA) Associate degree competencies for Health Information Management education.
  • Cultivate development of instructional programs and knowledge of trends, pedagogy, andragogy, and new technologies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Be current in the health information management subject area and possess the ability to develop, prepare, and evaluate instructional materials that promote learning, along with the willingness to utilize alternative teaching techniques and instructional technology where appropriate

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
 Demonstrates the willingness as well as the capacity to cooperate in a professional and courteous manner with other college employees and students. Share’s knowledge and contributes to helping others collegially while supporting the mission of the College.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:   Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management

CREDENTIAL: Current RHIT or RHIA required; with CCS preferred

EXPERIENCE:  5 or more years working in the health information management profession, concentration in coding and/or revenue cycle management preferred. Previous health information management educator experience preferred.

SALARY:       Dependent upon educational level and teaching experience

Teaching load is thirty–equated hours per academic year.

Copies of transcripts should reflect completed course work and conferred degrees. All academic course work and degrees must be from a regionally accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country (this is generally stated in the degree evaluation).

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited course work by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
 
Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation, will not be considered.
