The Board of Trustees of Laredo College invites nominations and applications for the position of President. Laredo College seeks a President who possesses the ability to continue and enhance the institution’s mission to serve as a learner-centered college that transforms students’ lives.

The College

Laredo College is a learner-centered institution transforming students’ lives through educational programs and services to fulfill the dynamic needs of its local, regional, national, and global community. The College aspires to cultivate a learning, teaching, and working environment that facilitates student success and promotes institutional excellence. Laredo College is celebrating its 75 th anniversary, after opening its doors in 1947 to prepare returning World War II soldiers for the workforce, and now serves as a two-campus district that provides education and workforce training to a thriving community with a growing population. The College has continuously served as a premier institution of higher learning for a tri-county area in South Texas that includes Webb, Jim Hogg, and Zapata counties. The singular taxing district is the City of Laredo. Laredo College is proud to be a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and has strived to champion the educational and economic needs of the community for over 70 years. Over 90% of the College’s average enrollments each year identify as Hispanic.

The College serves the varied needs of a rapidly growing community of over 250,000 residents and provides educational opportunities to over 10,000 traditional and dual-enrolled students each year through a variety of affordable academic, health sciences, and workforce programs. The student body profile indicates higher percentages of female, part-time, and non-traditional students. In as much as the student population is characterized as Hispanic and both academically and economically disadvantaged, the College is positioned to offer the appropriate services that address the unique needs of this student population. Laredo College values and supports all its constituents through advocacy, empathy, and highlighting awareness to issues that are most important to their livelihoods and prosperity. This focus on student success and excellence has led to recognitions such as the top spot in the Top 10 Community Colleges in Texas for two consecutive years (, 2020, 2021).

Laredo College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate and baccalaureate degrees as well as certificates. The College offers students the opportunity to pursue degree, certificate, training, and transfer programs in diverse Arts & Sciences, Health Sciences, and Workforce Education fields through multiple modes of delivery including traditional, hybrid, online, and flex modalities. The College currently offers two bachelor’s degrees, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership. The College’s Nursing programs have received several accolades including #1 in Best Nursing Schools in Texas (, 2021) and #1 Best RN-ADN Nursing Schools in the United States (, 2021). In addition, the College has a vibrant community education division committed to improving the quality of lives of adult learners by providing occupational and professional development, workforce skills, and personal growth. In 2021, this division garnered the Adult Education and Literacy Best in Class Award (TWC, 2021).

The College has a successful track record for acquisition of grants and external funds that support the College’s mission and institutional goals. Most recently, the College received over $5 million to bolster its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programming. The funds will largely be utilized to increase the number of Hispanic and lowincome students who attain degrees or credentials in STEM. Aside from excellent programs and financial support, the College contributes to the overall success and development of students through myriad vibrant academic and student support divisions. These divisions foster the learning and social development of students, regardless of location and mode of delivery, through student activities, student organizations, technology, and support that facilitates the students journey through college.

The Campuses

Fort McIntosh Campus: The historic Fort McIntosh Campus, formerly a cavalry post established in March 1849, is located on 200 acres at the western edge of Laredo. The campus is a unique blend of historic buildings from the last two centuries and state-of-the-art buildings, lending to the campus’ charm and appeal. The College has seen construction take place to expand and create state-of-the-art facilities, as part of the Board of Trustees’ $100 million master plan approval to renovate and develop LC’s historic main campus. The College continuously invests in facility expansions, improvements and infrastructure upgrades to the instructional and support buildings that serve the needs of the institution’s programs, services, and all mission-related activities.

South Campus: The 60-acre campus was constructed in 2004 in South Laredo near the banks of the Rio Grande and contains several buildings, including an academic and advanced technology building, a full-service library, an innovative child development center, a state-of-the-art automotive technology center, a law enforcement academy and a full-service student center. The newest addition to the campus is the College of Health Sciences which houses all of the nursing and allied health programs. This three-story building also houses a community clinic, operated by a non-profit third party, that serves as a clinical site for students as well as a source of health services for students and staff.

The Community

Laredo has been consistently recognized as one of the fastest growing cities in Texas and the nation and continues to expand its diverse population. Residing at the border between the U.S. and Mexico, the city serves as a major connective economic location for residents in both countries. Laredo is a thriving, growing, and dynamic center of commerce, banking, international trade, and oil and gas industry. The community is continuously investing in its infrastructure, businesses, educational institutions, governmental and civic entities to provide innumerable economic and academic opportunities for its constituency. The College has dynamic partnerships with all of these entities and is continuously seeking to garner educational and training opportunities for students and faculty with local and regional school districts and universities.

Laredo also lies approximately 150 miles south of San Antonio and the same distance north of the city of Monterrey, Mexico, representing a premier location to explore and engage with large communities that serve as partnering economic and cultural hubs alongside the city. With its location in close proximity to the Mexican border, the city serves as the largest inland port within the United States, handling over 37% of all trade and goods between the two countries within the last year alone. As well, Laredo’s civic government is deeply engaged with expanding the community’s small business economy through incentives, business development guides, and other resources that foster support and advocacy of the city’s critical small business owners.

The Position

Laredo College is seeking a student-focused President who seeks to make a long-term commitment to the College and will enhance outreach, increase enrollment and retention, advance relevant offerings, and engage the community in philanthropic support.
