The Department of Psychology at the University of North Florida is pleased to announce the search for three tenure-track faculty within a Race, Ethnicity, and/or Diversity Science Cluster in support of UNF’s and the Psychology Department’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) excellence. This cluster hire initiative demonstrates one of the many ways in which applicants can expect our university to engage diverse faculty and further our commitment as an equitable and inclusive institution.Job Function:
One tenure-track faculty position with specialization in Black Psychology and/or African-centered Psychology in conjunction with the Africana Studies Program (Position 321820).
Two tenure-track faculty positions with specialization in Race, Ethnicity, and/or Diversity Science (Positions 313660 and 300180 – apply at https://www.unfjobs.org/postings/18687).
The positions will begin in August 2022.
The faculty positions are full-time tenure-track appointments with primary responsibilities in teaching, research, and service/outreach. The successful candidates will become an integral part of the Psychology program with duties to include teaching courses in the department curriculum consistent with their backgrounds, developing a research program that incorporates undergraduate and graduate students, and participating in professional and university outreach and service activities. The University of North Florida and the Department of Psychology value diversity and inclusion. Degree offerings include BA, BS, and MS degrees, including an undergraduate concentration in Child Psychology and a BS in Behavioral Neuroscience. About 1000 undergraduate psychology majors and 35 graduate psychology students are enrolled at the University of North Florida. Psychology at UNF is a hub science, with connections across the University (e.g., Africana Studies, sociology, education, health, criminal justice, computing, biology, engineering, mathematics), and the community (e.g., Mayo Clinic research centers).

The faculty members will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (3-3 teaching load) in their area of specialization and for developing and maintaining a research program in which they mentor graduate and undergraduate students with a commitment to helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed. The faculty members will also be expected to provide service to the University at the departmental, college, and/or university level as well as the greater Jacksonville community and the profession. UNF faculty are expected to maintain excellence in all phases of instruction, research/scholarship/creative activity, and service.Faculty Position Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Psychology or related field by August 10, 2022;
- Expertise in Psychology with a specialization in Race and Ethnicity and/or Diversity Science
- Demonstrated ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside of the Psychology program.
- Potential to conduct and publish high-quality research, as indicated by publication in peer-reviewed journals and transparent research practices;
- Demonstrated commitment to student, faculty, and staff diversity; and
- Evidence of or potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.
The Successful Candidates will:
Be a dynamic researcher and communicator who has excellent written and oral communication skills namely the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students; the ability to establish a research program; an appreciation for diverse constituencies and effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with diverse faculty, staff, and students.Statement(s) of Understanding Definition:
