The Department of Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Mineral Systems. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, or related discipline, by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and in teaching. We seek a broad range of candidates whose research and teaching interests enhance our existing departmental strengths and add new, innovative approaches. Recognizing the critical importance of mineral resources in the green energy transition and also the need to sustainably steward those resources, we seek candidates who are pursuing innovative and independent research on Mineral Systems including (but not limited to) ore deposit modelling, mineral geochemistry and exploration, water-rock interactions, biogeochemistry, geophysical imaging of mineral systems, geologic sequestration, groundwater and mining waste remediation. We are seeking candidates who are forward-thinking, addressing cutting-edge scientific questions in one or more of these areas of specialization and who will establish a robust, externally-funded research program. Expertise in state-of-the-art analytical or data-science orientated methodologies including geostatistics or machine learning to promote scientific discovery would be strong assets.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, a track record of obtaining independent research funding, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing. We are seeking candidates who will contribute substantively to both the graduate and undergraduate teaching in the Department. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, teaching dossier submitted (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference. Bringing new perspectives to the Department, and bringing experiences and meaningful plans for connecting to groups that have been historically marginalized in the geosciences, are criteria that will be considered in our evaluation of excellence.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
