The Visual Arts Program in the Division of Fine Arts and Communication Studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design beginning August 16, 2022. The successful candidate will teach three introductory and upper-level graphic design courses per semester within a multi-disciplinary visual arts program consisting of faculty in graphic design, studio art, art education, and art history. Expectations for the selected candidate will include exceptional teaching, a strong record of research and practice in the design field, and a distinct and progressive vision for curriculum development. Full-time faculty are also expected to maintain an active research agenda and engage in departmental, university, and professional service.

Minimum qualifications:
• MFA in Graphic Design by the time of appointment;
• At least one year of professional design experience;
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in web design and development (HTML/CSS and WordPress), as well as design theory and methodology, typography, print and web design, Adobe CC, and Mac OS.

Preferred Qualifications:
• At least one year of at least part-time teaching experience in Graphic Design at the university level (to include assistantships or contingent faculty appointments);
• Demonstrated expertise in program and curriculum development;
• A demonstrated record of effective student mentorship;
• Demonstrated skill in print, typography, web, and interactive design, with an emphasis on concept development and problem solving.
