President

Quest University Canada

Squamish, BC

Quest is unique. Its groundbreaking approach to post secondary education began as an experiment. Today, Quest University has a proven educational model that has scored at the top in almost every category of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).

Quest has reinvented the undergraduate liberal arts and sciences, using an innovative philosophy and novel curriculum. Quest believes in teaching skills that work in the real world and in preparing students for any endeavour they choose—from graduate school to professional programs, and from traditional careers to independent paths.

As Canada’s first independent, not-for-profit, secular liberal arts and science university, devoted entirely to excellence in undergraduate education, Quest is a trailblazer in numerous ways. Quest University is accredited by the Degree Quality Assessment Board of the province of British Columbia and is a member of the Education Quality Assurance.

The University is located in the coastal mountain community of Squamish, British Columbia, between Vancouver (70 km south) and Whistler (60km north), host cities of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The University's 60-acre campus borders on Garibaldi Provincial Park, a protected wilderness area with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Squamish is located in the Howe Sound region, an area that recently was designated a UNESCO biosphere region, one of only 19 in Canada. To the west and south, classrooms and student housing overlook the rugged peaks and valleys of the Tantalus Mountains and one of Canada's southernmost fjords.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, the President will be expected to inspire and propel the enterprise forward to achieve its goals and enhance its influence; continue to strengthen and renew Quest’s pedagogical approach; recruit a truly distinctive student body; recruit and support world-class teacher-scholars; ensure a sustainable business model; and serve as a compelling and effective ambassador. The next President must be a proven leader with a strong reputation for collaborative leadership, an imaginative and innovative institutional vision, and deeply committed to the distinctive liberal arts and sciences approach of Quest. The next President should bring leadership experience from the post-secondary sector or, alternatively, a mix of experience, educational credentials, and commitment to education gained in the broader public and private sectors.
