Scope of Job:
The Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering (MAIE) Department at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to start the Fall 2022 semester. The MAIE department offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management (online and traditional), and a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering at the Edinburg campus. Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for tenure-track Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching, service, and research capabilities of the Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering (MAIE) Department and the success of students the department serves. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or in a closely related field from an ABET-accredited university, at least conferred before the start date. Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability, or a well-designed plan, to develop and maintain a funded research program and to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects. The successful candidates will demonstrate having the appropriate level of professional achievements and balance in teaching, research and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines and the ability to involve students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Preferred Qualification:
The department seeks new faculty members who can teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate level in the areas of work science, lean manufacturing, manufacturing processes and design. Preference will be given to candidates whose research complements the department’s strength in advanced machining, additive manufacturing, bio-manufacturing, data science and applied statistics, supply chain management, operations research, and smart manufacturing.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund - a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly the University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly the University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
