Job Description:


SUNY Empire State College seeks a .50 Specialist for Academic Support to provide onsite and online direct tutoring service in areas of science, introductory math, statistics and study skills. In addition, this candidate may assist in development and delivery of new academic support resources, provide embedded support within courses and support Academic Support leadership with managing services and programs as needed.


The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a statewide academic support team, value a student-centered approach to supporting learning and be willing to partner with faculty on learning activity design and support. Specific experience supporting post-traditional students and a diverse community is highly desired.



Requirements:


Required Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university with relevant content expertise
  • Experience with tutoring students at the college level
  • Excellent and effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work within a collaborative academic environment
  • Desire and skills to engage with a diverse student body
  • Knowledge of adult learning, learning technologies and online pedagogies
  • Experience with computer databases and web-based communications platforms

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree related to a science or math discipline
  • Previous college teaching experience

Special Information:


  • This position can be located in Buffalo or Selden, NY
  • Day and evening hours are required; weekend hours may be required as needed.
  • Occasional travel may be required to fulfill department, division, and college-wide commitments
