Summary of Duties: The Digital Technology and Culture program at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Teaching), Career track faculty position with a focus on Web Development and Design. The successful applicant is expected to teach undergraduate courses with an emphasis on creative and critical web development and design, interactive design, scripting, front-end development, information architecture and user experience; aid in the management and development of lab spaces; mentor students, work in collaboration with other units in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and be an active part of the DTC core faculty. The successful candidate will teach core courses in DTC (DTC 101, 201, 206, 475, 497) along with specific courses in the Web Development option which explores the principles of web design, coding, information architecture, and usability in a global cultural context. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16, 2022. This is a three year appointment with possibility of renewal.
The Digital Technology and Culture (DTC) program is an interdisciplinary program within the College of Arts and Sciences emphasizing humanistic understandings of technology, publicly engaged research, and creative production emphasizing social justice, anti-racist pedagogies, and decolonial methodologies. DTC faculty combine creative production and critical inquiry with an emphasis on community engagement in various formats. The DTC program is a growing unit with several undergraduate tracks and a graduate certificate. Students in any track in the program receive instruction on engaged practice and critical approaches to a wide breath of theory, technology, and media.

Required Qualifications:
1. MA, MFA, or MDe, MAD, MGraph, Ph.D. in Information Sciences, Interactive Design, Web Development / Design, or closely related area by the hire date.
2. Evidence of successful classroom and/or individual instruction or mentorship.
3. Evidence of ability to mentor students, including those from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Professional experience in web development and design, interactive media, immersive technologies, VR/AR/XR, or related technology industries.
2. Experience working in a studio, lab or collaborative production spaces, on collaborative projects, and/or within collaborative programs.
3. Commitment to retention of underrepresented students and student-success initiatives.
4. Experience with, or willingness to, teach online.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced
Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.
Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
