Summary of Duties:

The video manager is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, producing, shooting and editing video production used to advance the mission and reputation of Washington State University. This position produces videos that appeal to a wide variety of audiences, including prospective students, the WSU community, the general public, and other key stakeholders.

The video manager oversees the technical tasks related to production and post-production. The incumbent transports, setups, and operates equipment, and assists with location scouting, staging, lighting, and set preparation and design. This position works closely with graphic designers, the social media team and other members of the University Marketing and Communications (UMC) team to ensure all videos are branded within WSU identity guidelines and that all graphic and text elements are of the highest quality.

This position supervises video production and a team of videographers on WSU’s University Marketing and Communication’s team. The video manager partners closely with WSU’s creative director to coordinate art direction of video production for related design projects.

A strong project manager, this position manages operations of the video team, fiscal planning, budget, project coordination, and work flow. The incumbent will possess a passion for team building and a strong commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment. The selected candidate will be required to shoot video at a wide variety of events and locations, which may occur evenings and/or weekends.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications or a related field and one (1) year of professional-level experience in personnel supervision, as well as four (4) years editing and producing video and/or audio for various types of media; operating video cameras; operating lighting equipment; operating video editing software. Supervisory and production experience may by concurrent. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience with audio and video equipment, either in a studio or remote field production.

  • Knowledge of DSLR and digital video cameras.

  • A passion for team building and a strong commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and set lighting for an interview or B-roll scene.

  • Experience using Adobe Premiere and related video-production elements of Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in conducting documentary-style interviews, including researching subject matter and crafting interview questions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work as a member of team operating under strict deadline constraints.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, travel, drive long distances, work occasional irregular hours, and lift up to 50 lbs. of equipment and carry 50 or more yards.

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interviewing skills with a knack for drawing people out in conversation.

  • Skilled in story development and concept refinement. Able to take complex stories and communicate them in simple, easy-to-follow terms.

  • Ability to coordinate complex schedules (e.g., coordinate multiple interview subjects with production crew) in order to maximize efficient use of production time.

  • Experience taking photos with a digital camera.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
