Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Weatherhead School of Management Associate Director for Career Development is responsible for planning and directing a wide range of activities aimed at preparing students for meaningful internships and job placements. The Associate Director of Career Development will work with the executive director to create a strategy to select and provide career readiness and preparation for graduate management students beginning with admissions interviews to assess career readiness to, developing, managing, implementing and delivering career and professional development curriculum (new initiative for the school). The Associate Director will also collaborate with Director of Employer Relations and the program directors of the specialty programs to ensure seamless orientation, fall career related events and advising. The Associate Director will assist in the leadership of the office and partner with faculty, administrators, and members of the campus community to promote career development, student engagement, and career readiness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Design and implement admissions interview process to provide input to the selection of qualified candidates and to identify career and professional development needs of students. Participate in conducting admissions interviews as needed. (20%)Develop, implement, and manage career-related orientation sessions and career development curriculum and programming as well as in the design and delivery of the full life cycle of career development programs and services. Co-teach MBA career course and develop and deliver career and professional development workshops. (25%)Proactively meet with students to provide guidance and assistance with career decision, career planning and job search activities. Counsel students and alumni regarding career planning, job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and networking in a diverse employment market and other professional career interest areas. Assist with resume development. Make recommendations based on individual career goals. Utilize industry and corporate/client partner knowledge to assist students with preparation for the interview process. Identify resources to provide additional support, i.e. key alumni. Conduct mock interviews and coordinate and facilitate career search/interview preparation sessions consistent with the practices of the career management office. Counsel students and alumni on issues regarding performance management, compensation, navigating the workplace and employee development. (25%)Develop, implement, and manage student outreach efforts to ensure that each student is paired with a career development office staff member and that ongoing communication is established and maintained for student tracking and reporting purposes. Help students and alumni develop an “inside track” regarding opportunities in a variety of management-related careers. (10%)Participate in planning and managing the tracking of employment statistics. Develop and/or identify tools, programs, new technologies and resources to strengthen student counseling efforts and data gathering and management process. Counsel students and alumni on issues regarding performance management, compensation, navigating the workplace and employee development. (8%)Develop and implement school-wide programs, such as career fairs, speaker series and other events including a weekly corporate speaker series in collaboration with the director of student experience. Research, identify and secure presentation speakers and other external leaders to engage stakeholders in the life of the school. Provide oversight to the Coffee Connections Alumni Program including alumni outreach and student training. (8%)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Supervise Career Development and Enrollment Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 3 years of related human resources development experience including training and development, career advising, and corporate relations.

Education/Licensing: Bachelor’s degree in finance, marketing, business administration or any related field required. MBA or Master’s degree preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS

    Must have excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and great interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. Must have a strong desire to work with students.Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships.Familiarity with publications layout and graphic arts.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Demonstrated track record of delivering results in an environment of opportunity and change.Ability to meet consistent attendance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

General office work environment. Requires some travel. Must be able available to work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings.
