Description
The Alarm System Technician II will perform specialized skilled electrical tasks pertaining to fire alarm systems. Duties include establishing and maintain fire alarm testing and inspection programs, assuring all fire alarm systems have passed inspection, establishing a training program to assure proper operation of fire alarm systems, monitoring inspection schedules, and initiating minor repairs to fire alarm system. The Technician will serve as a lead worker and work independently on routine projects and use specialized tools and testing instruments of the electrical trade.

 

Schedule : Monday Through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:45 pm


Duties:

  • Schedule and or follow established schedule for all building inspections (Fire Alarm System, Sprinkler System, Fire Extinguishers or other inspections). Obtain required keys for each site to ensure access to all locations in the building. Escort contractors through building for inspections/testing. This function requires the Fire Alarm Technician to remain with contractor for the duration of the inspection. Complete all require paperwork related to job functions such as: log sheets, Fire Drill Reports; inventory counts, etc.
  • Inspect and initial Fire Extinguisher Tags while traveling /escorting contractor through buildings. Inspect and perform Elevator Phone Test monthly. Prepare a report and forward to Elevator Manager.
  • Perform Fire Pump Churn Test in buildings that have a Fire Pump provided that a second Fire Alarm Technician is on duty to assist with this duty. Perform minor repairs of Fire Alarm Panel/System such as: changing Batteries; change out Pull Stations/Smoke Detectors/Duct Detectors, etc. while working with low voltage wiring.
  • Read and respond to all email/text messages daily at the beginning of each day and throughout the workday while in the field on assignments. Fire Alarm Technician will be provided with a smart phone to perform all communication duties while out of the office on assignment.
  • Respond to all Fire Alarm calls during normal business hours from GSU Police Communications and or Facilities Customer Service Center. The Fire Alarm Tech will be responsible for resetting the Fire Alarm System during normal business hours once GSU Police provide the all clear message to Communications. Assist with Fire Drills on campus.
  • Identify fire alarm troubles or sprinkler troubles and communicate with supervisor verbally or written format the recommendation for repair. Coordinate Fire Alarm and or Sprinkler request for bypass with contractors once a written request for such service is submitted to the Fire Safety Manager.
  • Perform after normal business hours/weekend Fire Watch duties/detail during large occupancy events that occur seasonally and or upon notification of an event.
  • Respond to all Priority Two Alarms, inspect designated alarms (Panic Buttons) and complete report on inspections by submitting notes to GSU Police.
  • Performs other assigned duties


Qualifications
Technical or vocational degree with two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or GED and four years related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
