3-Year Term Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History

The Department of Art and Art History at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time, 3-year term, Visiting Assistant Professor position starting in August 2022, pending final administrative approval. We seek candidates with expertise in prehistoric through 17th-century European art and architecture, with preference given to those with expertise in fields including but not limited to Asian, African, Central/South American, Indigenous North American, and/or Oceanic art and architecture. We also seek a candidate who will contribute to the first-year student experience. Specific teaching assignments will include upper-level courses on the art and architecture of cultures spanning the prehistoric through 17th-century periods, regular rotation through at least two of the three intro-level global survey courses offered every semester, the junior research methodologies course, and supervision of senior thesis research and writing. This position also has the possibility of one course per year in either Museum Studies or Arts Administration. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Art History, with preference given to those with undergraduate teaching experience.   

Teaching load will average 20 semester credit hours or their equivalent per academic year, and all faculty members teach during the College’s distinctive four-week January Term. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, active engagement in scholarly and/or creative activities, and working closely with students in a small college environment.
