An ideal candidate has expertise teaching a variety of courses in the discipline at an institution of higher education, preferably at the community college level. The candidate excels at innovative student-centered teaching that is both engaging and academically rigorous. Experience using learning outcomes assessment at the course and/or program level to inform continuous improvement is preferred. Full-time faculty are expected to incorporate multiple instructional strategies and the use of technology in face to face, online and hybrid modalities within the required 15 faculty load hours per semester. Faculty are required to participate in department service including leadership roles, committee work, special department initiatives and student led- programs. Candidates should be able to discuss how they address issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all their work as well as provide evidence of the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. Additionally, the candidate should be a proven team player with a growth mindset and an ongoing commitment to personal and professional development.

AACC is a tenure granting institution. Any candidate hired as a full-time faculty member may be eligible to apply for tenure in the future based on institutional eligibility requirements.

Duties

  • Primary responsibilities:
  • 30 faculty load hours Fall and Spring Terms
  • 6 office hours per week during the fall and spring semesters
  • Teaching and assessing student learning

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time faculty; part-time faculty
  2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities including distance education formatsTraining and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.)Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programsPartnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the communityRecruiting and marketingAdvising with expanded responsibilitiesDevising retention strategies and activities to ensure equity gaps are eliminatedStrengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleagues
Required Qualifications:

A master’s degree in Communications

Minimum of two years’ experience teaching in the discipline at an institution of higher education (60 credit equivalency)

Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in theory and practice

Individual teaching schedules are developed each semester based on the needs of students, and department with the opportunity to teach daytime, evening, and weekend classes and at offsite locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Community college teaching experience

Experience teaching a diverse student population including English Language Learners

Ability to communicate orally and in writing in Spanish or another language

Experience mentoring and/or supporting students outside of the classroom

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

Practical knowledge of learning outcomes assessment at the course and/or program level

Experience using a variety of technology, including skill at using learning management systems
