Medical Education Experience Designer

SUPERVISOR: Chair, Department of Anatomy and Biomedical Sciences

This job description provides a general outline of duties and qualifications of the position. Other duties may be assigned and the description may be changed at any time. It is not intended to limit normal change and growth nor prevent employees from working to ensure the success of our endeavors.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Chair, Department of Anatomy and Biomedical Sciences, this role will function as member of a collaborative team to develop content for a medical curriculum in biomedical sciences.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary, collaborative team of biomedical educators across the four years of medical school.
  • Develop and maintain educational materials in biomedical sciences for medical students using institutional resources including the learning management system, medical education specific technologies, and VR/AR/XR technologies.
  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content to enhances retention and critical thinking for both on-site, in-person and off-site, virtual experiences.
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on medical education learners and learning contexts.
  • Facilitates, in collaboration with other members of the department and instructional design team, trainings on medical educational technology for faculty & meet the identified needs of departmental goals.
  • Create material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.) to support educational experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty to determine appropriate assessment instruments for educational exercises.
  • Maintain documentation and course folders in learning management systems.
  • Assist development of biomedical sciences education which supports Osteopathic Principles and Practice.
  • Oversee the discovery, creation and testing of innovative educational technologies in collaboration with TCS.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

QUALIFICATION(S):

A track record of proven experience in higher education, with biomedical sciences/medical school experience preferred.

  • A bachelor’s degree in instructional design (preferred) and five years’ experience or a master’s degree in instructional design (preferred) from an accredited institution of higher education
  • A record of successful instructional design projects in higher education.
  • Experience in peer-reviewed publication/national presentations.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in an educational team.
  • Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology preferably in medical academia.
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Session, activity, and curriculum planning skills.
  • Basic HTML and web technology experience.
  • Knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Visual design experience (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard.
  • Multimedia (audiovisual/video) development experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to contribute to organizational growth and development.
  • Strong knowledge base in medical education assessment.
  • Strong, effective, and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent public speaking skills. Innovative problem-solving skills, working within budget in a non-profit organization
