Job Description The School of Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) announces its search for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in the Division of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies. The position is full-time, 9 month, and benefit-eligible. The School of Education seeks candidates with expertise in elementary and/or early childhood mathematics education.

The individual selected for the position will join a dedicated and collaborative group of faculty and staff. The primary responsibilities are to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise master’s, specialist, and doctoral students, conduct an active program of research inclusive of seeking external funding, and participate actively in professional organizations. The initial certification programs are practice-based with close ties to the field. Therefore, the candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate closely with early childhood education centers, PK-12 schools, and other community-serving organizations throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. We seek candidates who engage with principles and themes of diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural responsiveness, social justice, and globalism in their teaching, research, and service.

Major Responsibilities:

    Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including coursework in early childhood and elementary math methodsMentor and take an active role in undergraduate student programmingAdvise and mentor graduate studentsConduct an active program of research and scholarship, including the pursuit of external fundingCollaborate with faculty on programmatic issues, including participating in educator preparation program assessment activitiesProvide service to the division, school, and universityActively participate in local, state, and national professional organizations
Minimum Qualifications
    An earned doctorate in early childhood education, elementary education, mathematics education, or a closely related field by date of hire. ABDs will be considered.Demonstrated potential or record of scholarship appropriate to Assistant Professor rank.Successful experience as an early childhood, elementary or early mathematics teacher, preferably in public, urban settings.Demonstrated potential or experience teaching in a college/university setting.Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including social justice and urban issues.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and community partners from diverse backgrounds and experiences.Demonstrated potential or experience teaching in both face-to-face and online formats.Demonstrated experience or interest in conducting research in urban settings.Demonstrated potential for leadership in service .
