Woodsworth College at the Faculty of Arts & Science and the Transitional Year Programme (TYP) at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time teaching stream appointment in the area of Digital Humanities and Writing. The successful candidate will be appointed to Woodsworth College (51%) and TYP (49%) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, and will begin on July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.
Applicants must have a completed PhD in philosophy, religion, languages and literatures, writing studies, linguistics, history, the arts or relevant discipline related to Digital Humanities and Writing by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and add to the existing strength of Woodsworth College in the Digital Humanities (DH) and who would be able to build DH capacity for TYP. We seek candidates who demonstrate experience in DH teaching-related scholarship and pedagogy, using a variety of DH methods, tools and platforms. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in teaching writing, reading and analytic skills to traditional and non-traditional undergraduate university students who may face barriers to access university education due to race, indigeneity, class, gender, sexual orientation, ability and/or migrant/refugee identifications and histories.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, including experience teaching diverse and multilingual students and a commitment to post-secondary access programs. Candidates must also possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and be pedagogically flexible to teach in both classroom and Writing Centre contexts.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, a teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi, course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the community life at both Woodsworth College and the Transitional Year Programme.
At Woodsworth College, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses for the College’s Digital Humanities Minor and may also teach disciplinary courses in the Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program or the College’s First Year Foundations offerings. Some work in Woodsworth’s Academic Writing Centre may also be assigned.
At the Transitional Year Programme, the successful candidate will teach TYP required courses in writing and rhetoric, as well as a new course related to Digital Humanities that both supports students during their time in the program and prepares them for success following admission to the Faculty of Arts and Science. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with other TYP faculty to enhance TYP’s program strengths by integrating writing instruction across the TYP curriculum. The candidate will support effective assignment design and writing-to-learn activities that promote faculty development focused on writing and language instruction. The successful candidate may also provide Writing Centre–style support for all students in the Programme.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Transitional Year Programme is a full-time, eight-month access-to-University program intended for adults who do not have the formal qualifications for university admission. It is meant for those who did not have an opportunity to finish high school because of financial problems, family difficulties or other circumstances beyond their control. The Program actively encourages applications from members of the BIPOC, Indigenous, and LGBTQ2S+ communities, sole-support parents, persons with disabilities, and individuals from working-class backgrounds of all ethnicities. Admitting about 50 students each year, TYP provides each student with academic advising, access to social work and counselling support, need-based bursaries, and space to work, socialize, and be with other students in their program.
