Position Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of EOP/Ethnic Affairs, the Guardian Scholar Program Coordinator (GS Program Coordinator) is responsible for the planning, preparation, and coordination of the SDSU Guardian Scholars Program. Oversee and coordinate the Guardian Scholar application and selection process for incoming cohorts. Review and interpret documentation that establishes students' foster youth, legal guardianship or homeless status, Plan and organize scheduled events throughout the academic year. Functions as a liaison to various departments on campus to ensure needs of Guardian Scholars are met. Establish a calendar and create activities related to Guardian Scholars and EOP outreach and trauma informed programming efforts. Facilitate and guide the members of the Guardian Scholar Student Advisory Board. Provide a safe and welcoming environment for Guardian Scholars.

The Guardian Scholar Program Coordinator will also address educational issues with Guardian Scholar students such as financial aid follow-up, academic probation and residential living on and off campus as needed.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Possession of this knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.

A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,691 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,691- $6,683 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
